Signing Off for 2011

Zack Young | August 6, 2011 | 5:31 AM

Hi everyone,

I’d first like to thank you all for an awesome 2011. Our traffic was at its highest point ever, the site’s Twitter is almost at 10,000 followers, and I can safely say our content was better than ever before.

Unfortunately the con has now passed and we’ll be signing off until early next June (or even late May seeing as how SDCC 2012 is a week earlier). Keep following the twitter or add the site to your RSS though, because we’ll still be updating you for such events as passes and hotels going on sale.

2012 is going to be the biggest year yet for us, so you guys have a ton to look forward to. Again, thanks for reading and I hope to have you back next summer for San Diego Comic-Con 2012.

Comic-Con 2011 has come to a close, and our sleep-depraved minds are still reeling from the whirlwind four days of lines, panels and offsite events. And because there was much more to see and do at the con than one person could ever dream of, we went to Twitter and asked our awesome readers what their favorite moments of 2011 were.

SDCC 2011, a set on Flickr.

If you followed us at all during Comic-Con this year, you would know that my thumbs were getting quite a workout keeping all of you up to date on pre-registration news, line queues and swag giveaways. On top of all that, we did manage to take a few pictures during the con, although not as many as I would have liked. Perhaps next year I’ll be able to finally figure out the cloning process and do equal parts of each. Because it’s Comic-Con, after all.

Check out my picture set of SDCC 2011. We’d love to show off your pictures too – if you’d like to share, just let us know and we’ll pass the word along!

A Quick Update On Comic-Con Coverage

Jeremy Rutz | July 23, 2011 | 12:33 PM

A quick update to all of our readers on our Comic-Con coverage. We’ve been feverishly updating our Twitter account with real-time happenings on the show floor. But, as you may have noticed, we have been kinda quiet on the blog front.

But have no fear! We’ll catch up on our recaps of Thursday and Friday this afternoon, and hopefully squeeze some panel coverage from today before the big premiere of Cowboys and Aliens tonight.

And if you aren’t following us on Twitter, why not? Our thumbs are getting quite a workout from all the tweets on and around the con. Follow us whether you’re at the con, or just want to feel like you’re at the con!

Check back later today for more of the great news and coverage you expect from us.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog LIVE

Lydia Schoenberger | July 22, 2011 | 8:08 AM

I’m sure you remember all the webseries called Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog written by Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed, Zack and Joss Whedon which was released before San Diego Comic Con in 2008.

It starred Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser M.D., How I met your mother), Nathan Fillion (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Castle) and last but not least Felicia Day as Penny (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Guild, Dragon Age Redemption, Eurika).

Andy Lowe thought 2 years ago that it might be a nice idea to adapt the webseries into a professional, but still fan based live stage play here in San Diego during this years Comic Con. And so he did with musical arrangements by Brian Hammond.

The lead role for Penny was cast with local Singer-Songwriter Jane Lui. It’s her first acting role, but she says she really feels comfortable on stage, because It’s a natural place for her to be.

There are several shows to come at the Tenth Avenue Theatre in San Diego till July 30th 2011. It’s located within walking distance from the Gaslamp district and the Convention Centre and tickets are still available either through Brown Paper Tickets or at the door.

Location:

Tenth Avenue Theatre
930 10th Ave
San Diego, CA 92101

More information:

SDCC 2011 Preview Night – The Gaslamp District

Jeremy Rutz | July 20, 2011 | 9:11 PM

Since I didn’t have access to preview night, I thought I would check out the Gaslamp District and see where the big offsite events are going to be set up. Some of them are already open for attendees, so if you’re like me and have to wait until tomorrow to get into the convention, there’s still a lot for you to do.

Click past the jump for a photo tour of what you’ll find in the Gaslamp District this year.

Browncoats and the Whedonverse at Comic-Con

danregal | July 20, 2011 | 11:19 AM

If you’ve been to Comic-Con before, or any comic convention around the world, you’ve probably seen those odd looking orange/yellow/red knit caps with the pompom on top. If you didn’t know that it’s from Joss Whedon’s Firefly, you might need to check your geek cred at the door.

Our Comic-Con Live Coverage Plans

Jeremy Rutz | July 19, 2011 | 3:00 PM

We wanted to let all of you in on our coverage plans for this year’s Comic-Con.

First, we’re planning on updating the blog from Wednesday through Sunday, day and night. We’ll be experimenting with live photos and videos from the show floor, for as long and as often as we have a signal to upload the goods to the site. So be on the lookout for tons of sights and sounds directly from the big show.

Second, we’re going to live blog during panels to pass along the news as we hear it. Big panels, small panels, we want to bring you as much as we we think you’ll want to read. We also know many of you will be at the con, too; so we want to be your eyes and ears for the panels you won’t be able to attend.

Third, we fully accept that we even we won’t be able to attend every panel and event, so we’re going to look for you for help. In years past, we’ve had some readers provide us with reports of offsite events that we’ve posted to the site for everyone to read. We’d like to extend that to this year’s con as well. Every night we’ll be compiling readers’ comments and photos from panels and events to bring you best and the most complete coverage of each day at Comic-Con. If you would like your comments on the site, send us an email or tweet us at our Twitter account.

And speaking of Twitter, yes, we’ll be tweeting everything we post to the blog, as well as retweeting anything we see that we want to pass along to all of you. Suffice to say, we’ve been giving our thumbs a lot of practice the past few weeks so you’ve been forewarned!

Okay, we’re ready – let’s get this show on the road!
