Attack The Block Screening at Comic-Con 2011

Jeremy Rutz | July 27, 2011 | 5:01 PM

Attack The Block Screening SDCC 2011

This isn’t meant to be a review, but we just have to say it: If you’re lucky enough to live in seven cities – New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, San Francisco, Seattle and Toronto – you must include going to see Attack The Block in this weekend’s plans. The British import, executive produced by Edgar Wright and written and directed by longtime-collaborator and first-time director Joe Cornish, is depending on strong word-of-mouth and a solid showing when it opens limited on July 29 in order to expand to a wider release. And in a season of big-budget blockbusters and established licenses, it is the most fun we’ve had at the movies all year.

We can say this with certainty because we were lucky enough to attend a special Comic-Con screening of the film on Thursday, July 21 at the Reading Gaslamp theater, courtesy of our friends at /Film.

Cowboys & Aliens Premiere Ticket Info

Jeremy Rutz | July 18, 2011 | 6:43 PM

Ever since Jon Favreau spilled the beans on the Cowboys & Aliens premiere during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, everyone’s been asking how they can get their hands on tickets to what is undoubtedly the Event of the Con. It was announced that 2,000 fans would have a chance to attend, but details have been scarce thus far. The fever pitch surrounding the event reminds us of what Charlie had to go through to get a Golden Ticket to get into Wonka’s.

Well, make that a Golden Brick.

The big Cowboys & Aliens banner going up on the side of the Hilton Bayfront has a text number on the bottom to receive info on how to score tickets. The banner wasn’t complete but we did some deductive reasoning to complete the instructions and came up with the info. By texting the word “Cowboys” to 834-567 we received the following response:

Be on the look out for Cowboys & Aliens gold bricks – get one and you could win tickets to the World Premiere at the San Diego Civic Theater, Saturday, July 23!

So that’s one way to get into the premiere. There may be others, and as soon as we hear of any we’ll pass along the info.

Spielberg Will Be at Hall H for Tintin Panel!

Jeremy Rutz | July 14, 2011 | 4:03 AM

Several sources have confirmed Steven Spielberg will be among the guests during the Hall H panel for The Adventures of Tintin.

Here’s what you need to know: the panel is on Friday, July 22 in Hall H and is the first panel of the day at 11AM, so you if you want a seat to see the man who made us all what we are today, you’re going to have to get there mighty early.

Also remember, CCI will be replaying video highlights of Hall H and Ballroom 20 panels at the end of the day. It’s not the same as being there, but if you must miss this one in person this is the next best thing to catch a glimpse of Spielberg, at least in the same building where he was hours before.

Other guests at the panel are yet to be announced, but with such a star-studded cast and crew, we’re expecting to hear lots more about this one leading up to next Friday. Keep checking here for additional details as we hear.

The Avengers: Is It Going To Be At SDCC Or Isn’t It?

Sara Irvin | July 7, 2011 | 7:00 AM

Perhaps the most exciting moment of SDCC 2010 came during the panel for Captain America.  There, in front of the 6,500 con attendees lucky enough to be in Hall H at the time, The Avengers gathered for their first public appearance!  The crowd went wild, and Marvel fans started counting down the days until next year’s SDCC, where The Avengers would once again gather for a panel of their own.  Then Marvel studios broke the news: there is not going to be a panel for The Avengers this year.  Marvel, like many other movie studios, have decided not to concentrate their efforts on the Comic Con crowds this year.

But all hope is not lost, Marvel fans!

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus in Hall H for SDCC 2011

Jeremy Rutz | June 27, 2011 | 8:42 AM

How did this get by us?

Three days ago, The Hollywood Reporter and Heat Vision blog writer Borys Kit tweeted some big name movies would be filling the void in Hall H at this year’s Comic-Con:

@Borys_Kit
Borys Kit
Ridley Scott’s Prometheus movie will get a Hall H presentation at CC. As willAbe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. But which actors will be there?

That’s right, both the Tim Burton-produced Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus will both appear on the conference schedule. No specifics were given as far as time/date or panel guests, but as soon as we hear the details we’ll be sure to pass them along.

Relativity Films Confirms Immortals, The Raven, and Haywire in Hall H

Jeremy Rutz | June 25, 2011 | 9:31 AM

Relativity Films announced their San Diego Comic-Con 2011 schedule yesterday. For those who were worried about the lack of big-name talent to fill Hall H, have no fear. Can you say John Cusack, Alice Eve and James McTeigue for The Raven? Or Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke for Immortals?

And Steven Soderbergh at a Comic-Con panel for Haywire? Wow…

Each of those movies will have their own panels, as well as autograph signings during the con.

Keep reading after the jump to find out the when and where for each.

Fright Night Screening, Panel, and Party Details

Zack Young | June 24, 2011 | 8:56 AM

Dreamworks is going all out at the con for their one film in attendance, and that film is Fright Night. The remake of a quasi-beloved 80′s flick, FN drops just a few weeks after SDCC so they’re really stepping up the promotion. Here’s what was announced:

No Marvel Hall H Panel!

Zack Young | June 22, 2011 | 11:26 AM

Yup, rumors have been floating around for a while but the LA Times just made it official. Marvel will sit out Hall H this year. It sort of makes sense as Avengers might still be filming and even if it’s done, the footage will be in such rough shape that there won’t be much that can impress. After all, when you consider how much effects work all the heroes on screen together will take, the raw footage can’t look very spectacular.

Marvel will likely have a booth promoting the films and might even have some stuff strewn around the con (virals, outdoor displays, and the like) but it definitely takes some thunder out of Hall H as The Avengers would’ve surely been its biggest panel. Now the question becomes Captain America. It comes out the Friday of the con but will Marvel have a big event screening with the cast and crew on hand or just let the fans flock to it on their own? We shall see soon enough.

Good Twilight-Centered News!

Zack Young | June 14, 2011 | 12:36 PM

Today Summit Pictures formally announced that Breaking Dawn will have a panel at the con. It was all pretty boring (there will be cast, it’ll be big, blah blah) except for a nugget of awesome for both fans and haters alike: The panel will happen early Thursday morning. For twihards that means you won’t have to sit through a ton of stuff you don’t care about. For everyone else it means twihards won’t be taking up space during all the stuff you really care about. Everyone is happy. Or at least as close to happy as Twilight news can make someone.
Note: Also at the panel will be The Three Musketeers (bleh) and The Darkest Hour (huh?). Yeah no one really knows what the second one’s about. I don’t think anyone at this panel will even really care.
