Pre-registration is such a scam. You have to camp out overnight in order to get a shot at badges and by the time you get them, you're going to be so sleepy you just want to go back to your hotel room, wasting a day that could have used for the Con. I found out the hard way last year when I showed up at 7am to pick up my Saturday badge and took the long walk to the hotel next door where pre-registration was taking place only to be told all the badges were sold out. Because I only had a Saturday badge, I couldn't show up on Sunday (or at least that's what I was told). The official rules were if you didn't have a four-day badge, you could only show up for the day your badge is good for after you pick up your badge, but then I heard unconfirmed rumors that people who didn't necessary have a badge for a particular day were permitted to purchase this year's badges at pre-reg. In other words, I wasted precious time taking the long walk to the hotel next door for nothing where I could have been waiting for a panel or browsing the floor instead.

Thanks for putting the offsite events together in one easy-to-find spot!

One suggestion - it would be helpful to know if a given off-site event is "all ages", "18+", "21+", or whatever. I'm taking my almost 18 year old with me this year, so it'd help to know this info at a glance. I'm guessing there are lots of kids and families who'd find this information valuable. Just a thought... :)

The 1# highlight of Comic Con 2012, was being at the autograph signing for Game of Thrones! Meeting Emilia Clarke was godly! She's even more beautiful in person than on cable tv!

I'm in. As I spoke with Zach, I'd love to help or own a section of the site that compiles panel/signing rumors. It's always a last minute scramble when the schedule is announced, when in reality many panels and signings are already announced in other places. I'm not a writer, but can obsess with the best. Let's make it happen!

I've been going to the Con for many years, but this year I've finally decided to blog about it. It's launching today and I'll be updating very frequently. Check it out and I hope to see you there.

This July will be my second time attending SDCC. I've been going to various conventions since 1998 (where I met my husband in person after having met him online in the official Xena: Warrior Princess posting board).
I'm gaining a whole new perspective on conventions since an injury three years ago (a couple of weeks before SDCC - this SHOULD have been my third time attending). I now have a physical handicap and am learning about navigating the convention scene while using Disabled Services (DS). I've found not only that many conventions don't even have DS, but the cons with DS aren't always very helpful.
I'd be glad to write up a few articles regarding the issues faced by those with disabilities if that would be of interest to your readership.

Brian: Way to sap the fun out of things. It's not like they asked anyone to dedicate 40 hours to writing for free. Its called VOLUNTEERING. I know I share stories from the con year long with friends and family. Why not share them for the world to see?

Jeremy: I would volunteer some time to writing, but I already offered for another blog. I wouldn't feel right backing out on them. Don't worry, they're not paying me either. However, I will post here anytime I hear about off site events, as I did last year.

Speaking of which, the House of Blues has a great line up already. SEGA of America Presents Sonic Boom 2012 featuring Crush 40 with special guests Jean Paul and Alex Makhlouf is 7/13 at 5:00PM. The Aquabats are playing 7/14 at 7:30PM. Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman are also bringing Hollywood Babble-On again this year. That show is at 11:30PM on 7/14. Tickets for those shows are on the House of Blues website.

The Legend of Zelda Symphony Concert Series has a performance at the Embarcadero Marina Park South (directly behind the convention center) at 8:00PM on 7/13. Tickets are available at sandiegosymphony.org now.

The Balboa Theater is hosting Wootstock 4.0 on 7/12 at 7:00PM and a live Nerdist (Chris Hardwick) podcast on 7/13 at 7:00PM. Tickets for both shows are on Ticketmaster.

And while it might not mesh well with the stereotypical SDCC crowd, Glee fans might be interested in checking out Wicked. Its running at the San Diego Civic theater from 6/20 to 7/15 (no shows 6/25, 7/4, 7/9) at various times. Tickets are on Ticketmaster.

Additionally, if you're looking for something a little bit different, The Bouncing Souls and The Menzingers are playing a concert at the House of Blues 7/11 at 6:30PM. As a fan of both bands, if you don't have a preview night pass, I suggest checking them out.

Geez Brian, what a rude response. This is a fan site, no one would expect to get paid for writing for it.
