Disney Channel Announces SDCC 2011 Schedule; Tron: Uprising Shares Spotlight

Jeremy Rutz | June 30, 2011 | 6:54 PM

The Disney Channel always gets a big crowd for their Phineas and Ferb panels, so they would be remiss if they didn’t return again in 2011.

Today Disney Channel announced their full slate of panels, and yes, Phineas and Ferb were included on the schedule – not once, but twice! They will be having a panel and Q&A with cast and crew on Friday, July 22 (time and location TBA), as well as a sneak peek of the new Disney Channel Original Movie, “Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension” on Saturday, July 23 with a Q&A with the creators directly following (again, time and location TBA).

Disney Channel is also bringing Kick Buttowski – Suburban Daredevil and Fish Hooks panels to Comic-Con. What is most interesting, and ultimately disappointing, to me is that not only is Tron: Uprising not getting its own panel, but it plays second fiddle at the Kick Buttowski panel, along with another Disney XD series, Motorcity. Geez, Tron rules the con three years in a row and this is what we get?

Check out the full press release after the jump.

Warner Bros. Limited-Edition Key-Cards Return to Comic-Con 2011

Jeremy Rutz | June 29, 2011 | 7:20 PM

After a cross-country or intercontinental trip that would make the Griswolds blush, there’s no better way to get your Comic-Con weekend kicked off than to check into your hotel and get handed one of these as your room key:

Let me tell you, it’s kinda like how Hal Jordan felt when Abin Sur handed him his ring. Or when Optimus Prime held the Matrix of Leadership in his steel hands for the first time. Or countless other geeky clichés I could bore you with.

Instead, let me get right to the good stuff: Warner Bros. is once again providing area hotels with five different collectible, limited-edition key cards to celebrate Comic-Con. Nearly 40,000 of these will be produced to promote popular Warner Bros. properties across television, video games and new media.

And of course, this will be one key card you won’t want to turn in when you check out. Click past the jump to read the press release and see the other four key-card designs for this year’s Comic-Con.

Terra Nova Tramples Into SDCC Saturday, July 23

Sara Irvin | June 29, 2011 | 7:30 AM

Terra Nova is set trample its way into San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 23 and is hoping to trample its way to con-goers’ hearts at the same time.

As previously reported here, Fox is planning a Terra Nova panel on July 23 from 3:30 to 4:30 in Room 6A. The panel will include star Stephen Lang and executive producers Brannon Braga and Rene Echevarria.  A screening of the pilot is also scheduled – it’s first showing to the public ahead of the network premiere this fall!

In addition, Fox has given us a new trailer for Terra Nova which shows just how much they want to get the attention of conventions in San Diego this July.  Check the video here: Terra Nova- Comic-Con Teaser..

And as if that wasn’t enough to get you excited for the show, Fox has released some promotional posters that are certain to get people talking. Click past the jump to see what will undoubtedly be covering the Gaslamp district in July.

Hasbro Unveils Avengers, My Little Pony Comic-Con Exclusives

Jeremy Rutz | June 28, 2011 | 12:42 PM

If you’ve ever been to Comic-Con before, you’ve undoubtedly spent too much energy A) rushing to and/or waiting in line for the HasbroToyShop booth; B) ogling others walking around the show with all of those cool toys from said booth; or C) all of the above.

Well, if you are lucky enough to be attending this year’s con, and if you’re reading this blog it’s most likely you are, then prepare your drool cups because Hasbro is starting to trickle out news on their 2011 SDCC exclusives.

USA Today’s Popcandy blog posted details on Hasbro’s Special Edition My Little Pony for all the little girls in your household, unless you are a little girl at heart, which means this is for you. This cutie will set you back $14.99.

And for the little boys in attendance, of which I am firmly in that camp, Marvel unveiled the Avengers Special Edition Mini Muggs Collector’s Pack. The set includes Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America Mini Muggs and a “giant-sized” Giant Man in Mighty Muggs form, all in awesome collectible packaging (check out Giant Man’s head sticking out of the Mini Muggs box!). The set will run $34.99.

As usual, availability of these exclusives are limited and could sell out early, but most likely Hasbro will have enough on hand to sell to everyone who wants one. They’ll also make limited quantities available after the con via the HasbroToyShop.com online store.

Marvel also said the rest of the exclusives will be announced closer to the July 20 start of SDCC, so I would imagine that also pertains to Hasbro’s other licenses as well, such as Transformers, G.I. Joe, Star Wars and Littlest Pet Shop. Stay tuned for more info as it is announced!

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Ringer, Grimm, and Awake – More Details Confirmed

Jeremy Rutz | June 28, 2011 | 7:30 AM

If anyone loves Sarah Michelle Gellar, it’s the Comic-Con crowd. Forever remembered as the lead in Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer during its seven season run, Gellar has dabbled in feature films, albeit unsuccessfully, since her departure from television. This fall, however, she’s back on the small screen, and the CW Network announced they would be bringing her to the con to promote her new show, Ringer. She’ll be joined by cast and crew for a panel discussion and exclusive sneak peak on Thursday, July 21 in Ballroom 20. Not to be outdone, they’ll have giveaways for the audience including signed posters for 100 lucky fans, and a chance to win “a three-night stay at a luxurious suite at a high-end hotel adjacent to the convention center”. CW, you had us at Sarah Michelle Gellar.

In a nice segway from Buffy (did we mention Sarah Michelle Gellar?), NBC confirmed that Grim, the new series from Buffy and Angel writer/producer David Greenwalt , would have a panel with the cast and creators along with an exclusive pilot screening. The time and room is still to be announced, but the date is locked – Saturday, July 23.

Lastly, UGO reported that NBC’s new thriller Awake would have a Thursday panel. The blog speculated whether the network would screen the premiere or exclusive footage from the freshman series at the panel, and no time or location was mentioned, so details are still to come.

Details for Ringer and Grimm are after the jump.

Cirque Du Soleil at PETCO Park During Comic-Con

Jeremy Rutz | June 27, 2011 | 9:20 AM

When news hit that Jon Favreau would be staging a big premiere of his upcoming summer blockbuster Cowboys & Aliens at Comic-Con, we reported that a big event was looking at using PETCO Park the Thursday during the con, per a tweet [since deleted] from Latino Review’s Elmayimbe.

It was later confirmed that the premiere was going to be held at the San Diego Civic Theater on Saturday, July 23. So what ever happened to that Thursday event at PETCO Park, then?

We now have the answer thanks to one of our readers.

Cirque Du Soleil will be performing a battle scene from their “KA” production, currently playing at the MGM Grand. Live at PETCO Park on Thursday July 21. The event will begin at sundown, and was featured in an advertisement in the July issue of Wired magazine. The best news yet, is that admission will be free and no ticket is required.

We’ve added this to our Offsite Events 2011 list as well, but thought this was cool enough to get separate mention.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus in Hall H for SDCC 2011

Jeremy Rutz | June 27, 2011 | 8:42 AM

How did this get by us?

Three days ago, The Hollywood Reporter and Heat Vision blog writer Borys Kit tweeted some big name movies would be filling the void in Hall H at this year’s Comic-Con:

@Borys_Kit
Borys Kit
Ridley Scott’s Prometheus movie will get a Hall H presentation at CC. As willAbe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. But which actors will be there?
Jun 25 via webFavoriteRetweetReply

That’s right, both the Tim Burton-produced Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus will both appear on the conference schedule. No specifics were given as far as time/date or panel guests, but as soon as we hear the details we’ll be sure to pass them along.
