The Art of Comic-Con
July 18, 2015 @ 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Comic-Con International and San Diego Comic-Con have a long and storied history of bringing together comics and pop culture fans, as well as offering a showcase for the amazing art that comes out of the love of those things. That’s why this year, CCI is partnering with the San Diego Public Library for “The Art of Comic-Con”.
The exhibit will draw on the 45 years of San Diego Comic-Con archives, and feature original art from over 60 comic artists, to celebrate “art as an integral tool in promoting the organization’s mission of creating awareness of, and appreciation for, comics and related popular artforms”.
Visitors will be able to view select pieces and process drawings in a variety of mediums that went on to be souvenir and program books for SDCC, WonderCon, and APE, from the likes of Jim Lee, Frank Miller, Babs Tarr, Sergio Aragonés, Dave McKean, Michael Cho, and many more.
The exhibit will kick off June 20 in the Art Gallery on the 9th Floor of the San Diego Central Library @ Joan Λ Irwin Jacobs Common, beginning with a reception from 12PM-2PM on opening day, and run through August 30. Both the exhibit and the reception are open to the public and free of admission.
You can find more information on Comic-Con International’s site.
