July 18, 2014 @ 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM$6 - $11
A new movie about the history of the video game industry, executive produced by Zach Braff and starring Wil Wheaton, will have its opening night on Friday, July 18 for you early-birds arriving in San Diego the week before the convention.
The screening will take place at the Media Arts Center San Diego’s Digital Gym cinema, a short cab ride from the Convention Center, with an opening night game party complete with classic and current-generation game consoles. Here’s the description from the Media Arts Center’s blog post:
From executive producer Zach Braff comes an epic feature length documentary chronicling the meteoric rise of video games from nerd niche to multi-billion dollar industry. Featuring in-depth interviews with the godfathers who started it all, the icons of game design, and the geek gurus who are leading us into the future, VIDEO GAMES: THE MOVIE is a celebration of gaming from Atari to Xbox, and an eye-opening look at what lies ahead.
NES, PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles will be on hand for pre-screening gaming. And if you bring your own controller (and if you’re a true gamer, why wouldn’t you), you get a free small popcorn. General admission is $11, with discounts for Military, Senior and Student status. Check out the blog post at Digital Gym for more info.
