San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog

SDCC is just around the corner (preview night’s in 9 days for those who are keeping count!), and TV Guide is getting in on the action.  As they did last year, they will be teaming with The WB to produce a Comic Con focused issue of TV Guide, and there will be four collectible covers.  This year, the shows being featured on the cover will be The Big Bang Theory, Chuck, Fringe, and The Vampire Diaries.  The magazine will be distributed at the Warner Bros. booth (#4545) starting on preview night, July 20, 2011, and will be available on newsstands July 21- July 28.

Even though we’re still three months away from the con, this is about the time that collectors are likely to start saving up. A few dollars here, a couple quarters there, then when SDCC finally rolls around they have a big stack of change to spend on some of the coolest and most collectible items around. Today Mattel announced a lot of their slate for SDCC and as one would expect from a huge comic-themed retailer, they’re pretty great. Read on for the details!

I’m not a Comic-Con shopper. Outside of a few shirts and posters I don’t go around the con hunting for exclusives and collectibles. Still, I love free stuff and getting to try out video games and the chance to get my picture taken with awesome stuff makes Preview Night a must for me. So this year I braved the exhibit hall for a full hour and fought babies, wheelchairs, and annoying booth employees to bring you my thoughts.

Chris Huntley is a multi-talented man. He creates software for writers, is an expert in story development, and gives presentations to help fellow writers. He is also a big presence at the con as his company Write Brothers is a long time exhibitor and he hosted the “Heroes, Villains, and Dramatica Archetypes” panel at last year’s convention. I interviewed Chris about his career and involvement with the con. Take a look!
