The Avengers: Is It Going To Be At SDCC Or Isn’t It?

Perhaps the most exciting moment of SDCC 2010 came during the panel for Captain America.  There, in front of the 6,500 con attendees lucky enough to be in Hall H at the time, The Avengers gathered for their first public appearance!  The crowd went wild, and Marvel fans started counting down the days until next year’s SDCC, where The Avengers would once again gather for a panel of their own.  Then Marvel studios broke the news: there is not going to be a panel for The Avengers this year.  Marvel, like many other movie studios, have decided not to concentrate their efforts on the Comic Con crowds this year.

But all hope is not lost, Marvel fans!

According to FIRSTSHOWING, Marvel is indeed bringing The Avengers to Comic Con, but not in the way that everyone expected.  Instead of saving all the big stars and secrets for the 6,500 people lucky enough to get into Hall H, Marvel seems to be concentrating on having a larger presence on the exhibit floor.  In a viral marketing attempt, S.H.I.E.L.D (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division) will be present on the floor, and rumor even has it that the Helicarrier bridge might be the centerpiece to Marvel’s booth.  In addition, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will be cruising the streets in Acura vehicles, looking for recruits.  There may even been footage from the movie showing at the booth!

All of this sounds very exciting, but what about the cast of the movie?  Well, Captain America: The First Avenger opens the Friday of SDCC (July 22), and according to The Hollywood Reporter Captain America himself, Chris Evans, will be in San Diego when it opens.  Marvel and Paramount are planning a military salute involving Chris Evans and soldiers stationed in San Diego.  Evans will also be signing at the Marvel Booth.  Besides Captain America, other Avengers are rumored to be signing, including Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Robert Downey Jr.(Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk).

So, that’s what Marvel has planned.  At this point, this is all speculation and nothing has been confirmed or denied.  What do you think?  Do you wish Marvel would have stuck with a Hall H panel, or does this sound more exciting to you?  Let us know in the comments section!
