Under The Tents Early Edition: Predator, Kevin Tong, Signings, Gravity Falls, Gallery 1988

We’ve started a new, quasi-regular column on the Blog titled “Under The Tents”. The title is symbolic, as it’s representative of the times we all line up under the tents waiting for those big moments to happen inside Hall H or Ballroom 20.

We may hear news on a new Predator project at Comic Con this year. The film’s Facebook page posted a photo, suggesting that “something” is waiting for us. The image shows Petco Park in the background, so keep an eye out.

Illustrator Kevin Tong has posted a cheat sheet via Facebook of where some of his artwork will be available for purchase during Comic Con. The list, which includes Pacific Rim posters at the Mondo booth (#936) and a Chuck Palahniuk poster set, is only a small preview, and doesn’t include everything.

The signing schedule for BOOM! Studios and Archaia’s shared booth (#2229) includes appearances by Regular Show and Adventure Time artists and writers, a massive all-star signing for The Thrilling Adventure Hour players on Friday, The League’s Paul Scheer and co-writer Nick Giovanetti for Aliens vs. Parker on Saturday, and much more. If you’re a cosplayer who loves Gravity Falls, we’ve got some good news for you. Creator Alex Hirsch has announced that they’ll be holding a Gravity Falls San Diego Comic Con Costume Contest. Fans who tweet Hirsch their cosplay photos throughout SDCC have a chance to win mystery prizes for the best dressed Dipper, Mabel, Stan, Soos and Wendy – and automatic prizes will go to “anyone who dressed as a character that no one else dressed as. (Obscurity = Victory!)”.

Gallery 1988 has unveiled some of their Comic Con releases and schedule, including a print release and signing for Scott C, Mark Englert, Eric Tan, and official Sharknado prints.

Today’s Toucan Tip of the Day is a reminder for attendees of the new programming room, the Lyceum Theatre:

New for 2013, Comic-Con International adds the Lyceum Theatre in Horton Plaza as a satellite programming room. The Lyceum offers special panel presentations not seen onsite at the Convention Center in a small, intimate, theater-like atmosphere. Each panel is ticketed, with extremely limited seating. There is no extra charge for these tickets.
