Additional SDCC Hotels Open Up For Waitlisted Attendees

marriott marquis marina hotelFor those who weren’t lucky enough to score a downtown hotel during the Travel Planners San Diego Comic-ConĀ General Hotel Sale earlier this year, there’s good news. While filling out hotel preferences, attendees were asked to click a box to be placed on a waiting list if a downtown hotel room later became available – and today, several hundred attendees were notified that some downtown hotels have indeed opened back up. Comic-Con miracles can happen!

Travel Planners sent an e-mail to eligible attendees with a link to a private sale, that included several hotels in the downtown area, including the Declan Suites, Doubletree Downtown San Diego, Four Points by Sheraton, Residence Inn Downtown, San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina, The Sofia Hotel, the W, and the Wyndham Bay San Diego. With the exception of the Marriott, which is next door to the convention center, most of these hotels are still several blocks to a mile away. However, for those who were previously looking at finding transportation from several miles away, it’s a definite upgrade.

A two night minimum stay is required for all new reservations, and no departures are allowed on Saturday, July 26th.

Attendees who had booked a hotel in the General Hotel Sale (but not the Early Bird Sale) can then e-mail Travel Planners with both the previous reservation number and the new one, indicating which one you’d like cancelled, for a refund. Hotels that were booked during the Early Bird Sale are non-refundable.

There’s good news for those who weren’t on the waiting list, as well. Travel Planners has announced that after May 29, 2014, the rooms (depending on availability) will be opened “to other guests” – presumably going back on sale through the regular SDCC hotel sale, which still has some Mission Valley hotels available currently.

Be sure to check your e-mail, and if you weren’t eligible, keep an eye on theĀ normal Travel Planners Comic-Con site after May 29.

Will you be upgrading your room? Let us know in the comments.
