San Diego Trolleys Add Mobile Ticketing for Comic-Con; Commemorative Passes and Increased Service

MTS_ComicCon_2014For those of you commuting to into the Gaslamp for San Diego Comic-Con, taking the trolley will be a whole lot easier. Or shall we say, “super” easier?

The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), which operates the Trolley lines in San Diego, announced they are now going paperless with a new mobile ticketing app for smartphones, named mTicket.

Just download the app for iPhone or Android smartphones and Trolley riders can purchase electronic tickets now and store for later use. Commuters can also redeem the tickets when they are ready to ride by scanning a barcode via the mTicket app.

MTS also produces commemorative Comic-Con Trolley passes every year, and those will still be available as a physical ticket. Riders can purchase the commemorative passes at select Trolley stations or The Transit Store at 102 Broadway in downtown San Diego, or in advance by calling The Transit Store at (619) 234-1060.

Prices for mTicket Trolley tickets are available for $5.50 for a one-day, $10 for a two-day, $13 for a three-day, $16 for a four-day, and $20 for a five-day pass.

Lastly, MTS has announced it is increasing service on the Green Line throughout the convention, running every seven and a half minutes between 6am and 10pm.

MTS Trolley – the Transportation Superhero for Comic-Con – Announces New Mobile Ticketing Technology Ready for 2014

MTS harnesses the powers of technology to improve efficiency of transporting Comic-Con attendees

San Diego – Comic-Con attendees can say goodbye to waiting in line at ticket vending machines or ticket booths for their Trolley passes. Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) announced that paperless Trolley tickets are now available for the first time ever on mTicket – the new mobile ticketing app available on smartphones.

Even though Comic-Con is still two weeks away, passengers can purchase and store tickets right on their smartphones today. Multiple passes can be purchased on one phone too, making it easy to travel in groups. The app is free and is available through the App Store or Google Play. For more information, visit www.sdmts.com/mTicket.asp.

One-, two-, three-, four- and five-day passes are available for $5.50, $10, $13, $16 and $20 respectively. Users of mTicket do not need a Compass Card and can activate the mTicket at any time on the day of travel prior to boarding the Trolley.

MTS has also printed a limited quantity of commemorative Comic-Con day passes. The commemorative passes are sold at ticket booths at select Trolley stations or The Transit Store at 102 Broadway in downtown.  Fans wishing to purchase the commemorative Comic-Con Trolley passes in advance can call The Transit Store at (619) 234-1060. Day passes provide unlimited rides on all Trolley lines and most MTS bus routes.

Additionally, MTS will substantially increase service on the Green Line for all five days of the convention, which provides direct service to the Trolley stations next to the Convention Center. Trains are scheduled to serve the Convention Center every 7.5 minutes almost all day long (from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.). Details about the expanded Comic-Con Trolley service can be found on the MTS Comic-Con webpage at www.sdmts.com/Trolley/ComicCon.asp.

MTS operates three Trolley lines on 53 miles of double-tracked railway and more than 90 bus routes. For more information on how to save money by using public transportation, go to www.sdmts.com.
