May has been a busy month for San Diego Comic-Con news. In the span of just the past four weeks, we’ve seen a flood of exclusives news, some panel announcements, and lots of other news tidbits that we’ve packed into our special Under the Tents posts. But have we been able to answer the one question that fans are dying to know? Will Gerard Way be attending SDCC? It seems this month we just may have the answer.
If you haven’t been keeping up with our Gerard Way posts here at The San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog, in January we started our very own monthly Gerard Way post to help keep track of all the times Gerard Way gets asked if he will be attending San Diego Comic-Con. Why do we do this? We’ve found that in our Comic-Con news search, we often find tweets from fans asking their favorite artists, writers, and celebrities if they will be attending SDCC for the upcoming year. It seems that no matter what information we come across, every year one name stands above the rest.
We find that one of San Diego Comic-Con’s most tweeted after celebrities is former My Chemical Romance band member and Eisner-award-winning Umbrella Academy writer, Gerard Way.
In fact, every year we were finding so many Gerard Way tweets that we began to ask ourselves, just how many times does Gerard Way get asked via Twitter if he will be attending Comic-Con? We have inquiring minds and would very much like to know the answer to this, thus began our monthly quest for that answer.
Like we mentioned earlier, May has been a busy month, not only for Comic-Con news but many other cities have also geared up to host their own cons. In fact, this past month our own Sarah Lacey attended the Motor City Comic Con in Michigan, where little did she know (or anyone knew, for that matter), that Gerard Way himself made a surprise appearance as an attendee.
Sadly, Sarah never got the chance encounter to run into Gerard Way during the Con. If she had, she would have been sure to ask him about his Comic-Con plans. While there is still no official word from Gerard Way’s Twitter account yet on whether he will be attending San Diego Comic-Con, we do have some news that that may shed some light into the answer to the burning question of whether or not Way will make an appearance at SDCC 2015.
We came across a twitter user who’s friend happened to bump into Gerard Way during the Motor City Comic Con and were able to ask him the question that is on all of Way’s SDCC attending fans minds. We first came across this new found news via her tweet:
This caught our attention and wanting to confirm this news, we decided to reach out to Gerard Way’s public relations agent to ask if he could confirm if Gerard Way would be attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
This was his response via an email message:
he will NOT be in attendance this year
Seems we have two conflicting pieces to the Gerard Way SDCC Puzzle, meaning we don’t have a clear, official answer yet. Until then, we have this month’s tweet tally.

While we still don’t have word if Gerard Way will be attending SDCC 2015 or not (when we find out we will be sure to let you know), here is the total Gerard Way tweet count thus far:
