Krysten Ritter Headed to San Diego Comic-Con 2016 — Could Netflix Finally Attend?

recaps-jessica-jones-03Last month, ComicBook.com talked to Krysten Ritter at Wizard World Portland, and got some potentially really exciting news about San Diego Comic-Con.

In the interview, Ritter mentioned that she’d never been to Comic-Con before, but that she’d be going this summer.

Although she didn’t say what she’ll be there to promote, the most logical answer is Jessica Jones, the Marvel and Netflix collaboration that scored high points with both fans and critics. The series is getting a second season, and the character will also appear in the team-up series The Defenders, which will unite her character with Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist as well.

Here’s a look at the interview from ComicBook.com:

Ritter: I’ve never done anything in this genre before, so it’s been completely life-changing. And I’ve never been to Comic-Con before. This is a whole new ballgame for me.

ComicBook.com: The fans, they love you. Just wait until the day you get out to San Diego Comic-Con.

Ritter: Yeah, I’ll be going this year.

ComicBook.com: Oh, that’s an experience.

Ritter: Yeah, I can’t wait.

While that’s exciting in and of itself, it’s possibly even bigger news, because there’s been a strange rift between Netflix and San Diego Comic-Con for several years. Although the streaming company brought Hemlock Grove to WonderCon in 2013, the smaller SDCC-sister show also run by Comic-Con International, they haven’t officially been back to a CCI-run convention since. Instead, they’ve attended New York Comic Con, their own OrangeCon for Orange is the New Black fans, and other events.

Last year, when Sense8 co-creator J. Michael Straczynski came by himself to San Diego Comic-Con and talked about his Netflix series, he told fans on Twitter that none of the cast or other crew would be at the panel because “Netflix [was] not allowing it” and had told the cast not to come, and that the “marketing dept. doesn’t support SDCC”.

So if Ritter is attending to promote Jessica Jones, The Defenders, or even just some combined Netflix TV panel, that’s good news for attendees all around.

Are you excited that Ritter will be at SDCC 2016? Let us know in the comments.
