Although soon we’ll start finding out what will be at San Diego Comic-Con, it looks like there’s one series that it looks like you can count out: Outlander.

Author Diana Gabaldon, who penned the book on which the Starz series is based, is part of a literacy community on Compuserve. She told a fan on there that, “Outlander is NOT coming to San Diego Comic Con this year, btw, because everyone is otherwise engaged.”

Starz has not responded for comment to confirm, but Gabaldon has been involved in the series, and appeared on last year’s San Diego Comic-Con panel alongside executive producers Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis, as well as cast members Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan.

Davis also confirmed on Twitter that the series won’t be at SDCC this year.

Although the reason that Gabaldon gives for the series not attending this year amounts to schedule conflicts, the reasoning could be even simpler. The series is still airing its second season, and will air its season finale on July 2 – just a few weeks before this year’s con. As it hasn’t been picked up for a third season, assuming that it is picked up, it’s very questionable whether they’d even be filming season three yet at that point, meaning that they likely wouldn’t have anything to show to fans.

Don’t count Starz out of San Diego Comic-Con 2016 completely, though. The network has the upcoming American Gods series from Bryan Fuller (based on the Neil Gaiman book) that’s likely to get a big push, and we could also see a return of Ash vs Evil Dead. Although Black Sails premiered at San Diego Comic-Con back in 2013, it hasn’t held a panel since – though cast members did appear for autograph signings in Sails last year – so the return of that series seems like more of a stretch.
