San Diego is beginning to get into the Comic-Con spirit. The trolleys will soon be wrapped in all their SDCC glory, thanks to Syfy this year. In the meantime, we’re seeing a lot of SDCC prep from artists like Alex Ross, Patrick Ballesteros, and Justin Harder. This issue of Under the Tents also has some SDCC hints from shows like Supergirl and Titans, so read on to get the latest and juiciest SDCC news.
Here’s a look at what you might have missed:
- Artist Ben Lee has been hard at work preparing for SDCC 2018 and posted a couple of his works in progress to his Twitter feed.
- Artist Sean Forney has been working on some Masters of the Universe SDCC commissions, but according to his tweet, he’s willing to draw more. You can check out his commissions page for information on what types of commissions he offers, how much he charges for each, and how to order.
- According to a report from Action Figure Insider, Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco are bringing Zenescope all the way from Horsham, PA to San Diego, CA to debut their latest work: Revenge of Wonderland.
- Author Mark Oshiro posted a link to his tour schedule to his Twitter feed, and we were happy to see SDCC 2018 included. His signing schedule is still TBA, so keep an eye on our Autographs page for more info.
- It’s the Monster Squad! Patrick Ballesteros isn’t only about SDCC exclusives. His 25¢ Wonders are extremely popular at SDCC (enough for him to need line management at his table), and he’s debuting a brand new Monster Squad print at Comic-Con this year.
- NASA Staff Scientist Jessie Christiansen proved that where there’s a will, there’s a way. Since she wasn’t lucky enough to get an attendee badge for SDCC this year, she decided to be on a panel instead.
- After a brief hiatus, it looks like the Baker Street Babes are bringing back their SherlockeDCC party during SDCC this year.
- Writer Andrea Ayres announced to her Twitter followers that her SDCC panel, Moms and Motherhood in Comics, has been approved, and she’s looking for a few more panelists. Feel free to get in touch with her if you think you’d be a good fit for her panel. Details on date, time, and location to come.

- Do you wanna go and take a ride with Justin Harder, who is hard at work on some of his RIDES prints for SDCC. Or maybe you’re into his SQUINTS prints more? He’s bringing both with him to his table in Small Press. If you want to see just what his process is for creating these, you can rewatch him on our SDConCast from earlier this year.
- Somewhere, there’s a parallel dimension where the film A Brief History of Time Travel was accepted into the CCI Independent Film Festival at SDCC. Oh, wait, we’re already in that one. More details are still to come (as long as no one messes up the timeline).
- Artist Alex Ross is also hard at work on some new originals he plans to have at SDCC this year.
- Will DC Universe bring its upcoming TV series Titans to SDCC this year? If Ryan K. Potter is counting down the days, we think that may be likely. We’ll definitely keep our eye on this for a more formal announcement.
- J’onn J’onzz meet… J’onn J’onzz? David Harewood had a little fun taking a selfie with a Martian Manhunter cosplayer at MCM Comic Con in London and implied that the bar is set pretty high for SDCC. Is this yet another indication of some sort of Supergirl presence at SDCC this year?

- Artist Mateo Santolouco has opened his commissions for SDCC 2018. Head to his SDCC commissions page for details on sizes, pricing, and how to order.
- Outlander TV News was excited to announce the return of their Outlander Fan Panel to SDCC this year. Date, time, and location have not yet been announced, but you can see who will be on their panel.
- Steven Weintraub, editor-in-chief of Collider, announced via Twitter he will be moderating a panel at SDCC this year. We’ll keep an eye open to see which panel(s) he is moderating.
- Writer Bryan Edward Hill announced via Twitter he will be at SDCC this year for panels, signings, and possibly more. Just look for the guy dressed like Sonny Crocket.
- Writer Sam Maggs took to Twitter to announce she’ll be at SDCC this year and has “some panels to staff,” so if you’re going to be at SDCC and have any interest in her panels, let her know you’ll be there.
