Feast on the “Lumpia with a Vengeance” Release Party at the Comic-Con Museum

Are you hungry for more Lumpia with a Vengeance, the beloved cult classic indie comic book film?

Get ready to indulge in an afternoon of action and lumpia as the Comic-Con Museum will be hosting the film’s Blu-ray and DVD release party on Saturday, January 27.

Attendees at San Diego Comic-Con for the past two years have been treated to screenings of the film, which was directed by Patricio Ginelsa and is the sequel to the 2003 cult classic Lumpia. The sequel continues the story of Fogtown, where a lumpia-wielding avenger named Kuya tackles a crime syndicate selling drugs disguised as food, and must save the town with the help of his friends both old and new.

It stars former UFC champion Mark Muñoz, Danny Trejo (Machete), April Absynth (STARZ Blindspotting), Katrina Dimaranan (Miss Philippines Universe Tourism 2021), Earl Baylon (Netflix Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft), and more.

On Saturday, attendees at the Comic-Con Museum release party will be treated to a series of special events, including a live comic book sketch demo (as the film has since gone on to expand into the “DFU”, or Deep Fried Universe, and now encompasses comics and more), a panel discussion with the film’s cast and crew, and an exclusive signing. And of course, there will be lumpia served in a special reception, courtesy of the local Gaslamp Lumpia Factory.

The full schedule of events on January 27 includes:

  • 12:30 pm: Live comic book sketch demo from artists and father-son duo, Lawrence and Diego Iriate, in the Museum Theater, with a popup display of the film’s costumes and comic book art.
  • 2:00 pm: Panel discussion moderated by Brian Hu from Pacific Arts Movement, as the movie’s cast and crew share behind-the-scenes stories and insight on their remarkable ten-year journey from movie success to comic book creation. All panel attendees will receive a FREE exclusive art slipcase.
  • 3:00 pm: A delicious lumpia-filled reception, courtesy of Gaslamp Lumpia Factory.
  • 4:00 pm: Exclusive signing event in the Museum Shop. Be the first to own the Blu-ray/DVD of the movie or a variant of the trade paperback, exclusive to Comic-Con Museum, with art by San Diego native Benjamin DeGuzman (both for sale).

The Blu-ray/DVD will feature a two-disc set that includes over an hour of bonus content, including music videos, deleted scenes, featurettes, and the Comic-Con 2023 panel.

Admission is included with a Comic-Con Museum, which is free for Comic-Con Members. For non-members, tickets are available for $25 for adults; $12 for children ages 6-12, seniors (65+), and students (13-17); and military members are $18. Children five years of age and under are free.
