Updates following original post…

If you’ve ever dreamed of being Professor X, Comic-Con may be your chance.

20th Century Fox has created an X-Men themed virtual reality experience to their booth on the show floor, where attendees will be able to utilize an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to simulate Cerebro, Professor X’s technology that he uses to detect mutants.

From the Associated Press article about the event, here’s what it will entail:

The 360-degree, 90-second virtual adventure will take place on the Comic-Con show floor inside Fox’s booth, where attendees will sit in a replica of Professor X’s wheelchair and virtually hunt shape-shifting mutant Mystique in the San Diego Convention Center. Each experience will be recorded and made available for users to share on social media.

The Associated Press was granted a demonstration of the Oculus Rift event, and described the short interactive film narrated by a Patrick Stewart sound-a-like as “what it might look like to roll into the iconic domed Cerebro chamber depicted” in the X-Men films.

[UPDATE] We just received the official press release on the event, and it has some additional details regarding the X-Men presence at the Fox booth.

First, those who participate in the Cerebro Experience will receive one of four collectible X-Men character posters, with a different poster for each day of the convention. Quantities of these posters are limited, so get to the booth early and often if you want the complete set. We also have some images of the Cerebro Experience seen below:

Second, guests at the booth will be able to pre-order X-Men: The Cerebro Collection, a limited edition set with X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: First Class on Blu-ray packaged in a replica of Professor X’s Cerebro helmet. Quantities of the Cerebro Collection are limited to 1000 units and will sell for $79.99. Those ordering can include X-Men: Days of Future Past together for $89.99.

Last, a new X-Men app will be unveiled during SDCC, “the definitive source for all official X-Men movie news and the complete reference for mutants in the X-Men movies universe”.
