Two of the hottest directors across multiple platforms, video game designer/director Hideo Kojima and film director Nicholas Winding Refn, are heading to San Diego Comic-Con next month.
For the uninitiated, Kojima is the designer for the popular 1987 Metal Gear, and he’s got one of the most anticipated games of the year premiering in November — Death Stranding. Refn is best known as the director of Drive, and Too Old to Die Young.
While details are scarce as to the “why” they’re coming, there are several possibilities. Refn does have a cameo in Death Stranding, as the character Heartman. Additionally, Kojima appears in Refn’s Amazon series, Too Old to Die Young. The latter, however, premiered last week — so it would seem odd for Amazon to promote that series, especially with such a bit cameo as Kojima. The more likely scenario is perhaps that they’ll just be doing a joint panel to discuss the larger world of directing, their friendship, and anything else that they might want to.
