Patrick Ballesteros, who you’ve maybe seen once or twice on this very site, does nostalgia like no one else — in a world that currently wants to sell you nostalgia at every corner. His signature style involves turning your favorite pop culture characters into kid-ified versions of themselves, which gives a fresh spin full of childhood wonder.
This year, Ballesteros is taking things virtual with some San Diego Comic-Con Online exclusives (and of course, his mini originals). You’ll be able to grab them on his website mostly on Wednesday, July 22 at 6PM PT, when San Diego Comic-Con would have been.
Here’s a look at this year’s exclusives:
[UPDATE July 26]
The con keeps going at least for one more day thanks to Patrick Ballesteros! On Monday, July 27, you can pre-order his first ever vinyl figure — Hug. The 3.5″ resin figure is an original character created by Patrick, inspired by his son — and a belief that everyone should wake up to a little hug each morning.
Working with Props & Pop, Ballesteros has now brought the figure to life — and each figure will have a unique name and tiny backstory. You can pre-order yours for $65 on his site on Monday at 10AM PT, with a limit of 1 per customer.
[UPDATE July 20]
Every time we think Ballesteros has created his best line-up — he double downs. Or in this case, quadruples down?
We’re excited to say this may truly be our favorite piece he’s ever done, and there’s even four (yes, four) mini-prints to go alongside it. We’re all missing San Diego Comic-Con right now, and so he has created a Comic-Con exclusive series that’s just as epic as the convention itself, as a tribute to when our con family gets to hang out again in person.
The Great Hall is the main print (and comes in at 12″x12″), and features many, many, many of your favorite pop culture characters (and also some real-life faces you might recognize, like Patrick Ballesteros himself and Stan Lee), doing all of the things at Comic-Con we wish we could be doing right now. Autographs! Panels! Buying t-shirts from giant, towering racks! Shopping at “Funky Town”! It’s a giant love letter to a convention we all love a whole lot.
The Great Hall is limited to 250 pieces, and you can grab yours on Tuesday, July 21 at 10AM PT for $35 on Ballesteros’ site. There is a limit of two per customer.
[UPDATE July 19]
This play date should definitely not include bathtime or frog snacks after midnight — but you can join Ballesteros on a Playdate with his latest Comic-Con @ Home exclusive. Playdate is part of Ballesteros’ Can You Hear Me Now? series, which takes us back to a simpler way to communicate with our pals via tin can. Get the set of two 4″x4″ prints for $15 — which are also inter-changeable with other prints in the series. It’s limited to 200 pieces, and a limit of two sets per customer. Grab it on Wednesday, July 22 at 6PM PT.
Get ready to battle it out for Patrick’s Wave 2 of Mini Originals on Sunday, July 26 at 10AM PT. Each of the 50 pieces of new framed original mini artwork will be available for $60 each, and it’s a limit of one per customer. These will ship individually, and cannot be combined with other orders.
[UPDATE July 17]
If you can’t get through the day without your coffee, then Ballesteros’ Coffee Time Exclusive Package is exactly what you need. The $90 package features five new I Love Coffee pins, a bag of San Diego’s own James Coffee beans, and a hand drown coffee label (you can choose one existing character of your choice for Ballesteros to draw in his kids style). It’s limited to 30 sets, and a limit of one per customer.
It will retail for $90 on Saturday, July 25 at 10AM PT — and unlike the other items, it ships individually and cannot be combined with other orders.
If that’s not enough, he’s also got The Pin-oy Care Package, celebrating Ballesteros’ Filipino culture, love for food, and a sprinkle of pop culture tossed in. The $75 package features six pins, and is limited to just 30 sets, with a limit of 1 per customer. Grab it Friday, July 24 at 10AM PT.
[UPDATE July 15]
You may have to take up your lightsaber and get ready to battle the Dark Side for a chance at Ballesteros’ latest San Diego Comic-Con Online exclusive. This 8″x10″ print, titled Hopeful, features some of your favorite moments from a galaxy far, far away.
It’s a limited edition of 200, and you’ll be able to try to grab one (or two!) on Wednesday, July 22 at 10AM PT. It’s a limit of two per person — and it will retail for $20.
