Comic-Con International quietly updated their site to confirm the news we all pretty much suspected was coming: There won’t be any badge sales for San Diego Comic-Con 2021.
That doesn’t mean that there aren’t Comic-Con 2021 badgeholders, though. Those who originally had badges for San Diego Comic-Con 2020 had the option to either receive a refund or roll their badges over to 2021 — so plenty of folks already have a “golden ticket” to next year’s scheduled event already.
While the exact number of people who requested refunds is unknown, we suspect that the majority of attendees opted to keep their badges.
As Comic-Con notes (or as you yourself can note by turning on a TV, opening a news website, stepping outside, etc.), there is “continuing uncertainty of public gatherings during the Covid-19 pandemic”. What that really means is the much bigger question regarding Comic-Con 2021 is… whether there will be a Comic-Con 2021 at all. It’s still too early to say definitively what the world will look like nine months from now, but it seems like a smart decision on CCI’s part not to sell additional badges at the moment even if they somehow did have several thousand refunds.
