WonderPost 2023: Fleischer Cartoons, E.M. Gist, Patrick Ballesteros

February is just flying by and while some of the country is being buried under snow flurries, we here at the UBlog have a flurry of WonderCon 2023 news and excitement for you.

We have not yet seen the official exhibitor list but everywhere we look folks like David Mack, E. M. Gist, and David Baron are announcing their placements. Patrick Ballesteros makes us hungry for ramen and we feel maximum love for JP Neang’s new mini series.

Let’s take a look at the news you might have missed:

  • Artist and illustrator Mog Park will be touching down in Anaheim with plenty of prints, blank sketch covers, and original art. They will also be taking commissions. Find Mog in Artist Alley at #A-59.

  • Fans of Grumpy Unicorn and its creator Joey Spiotto might be a little grumpy to learn that he will not be attending WonderCon this year. But [SPOILER ALERT]….if you’re attending SDCC in July you’ll be able to get your Spiotto fix there.

  • Thanks, Patrick, now *we* are also hungry for ramen! Better make sure you have your (MULTI) pass if you want to have a chance to snag this Patrick Ballesteros Fifth Element piece. Stay tuned soon for a look at the full thing, nudge nudge wink wink.

  • If you’re all about the Symbiotes, then you’ll be happy to know that long time Venom artist Sam de la Rosa has WonderCon Anaheim on his (fully packed) schedule. His sketch covers and originals are something to behold.
  • Does artist David Baron have the greatest smile in the comic biz? It would be a close contest between him and Jock, but you’ll be able to check David’s for yourself, along with all his amazing work, at WonderCon. Find him at Artist Alley #A-09.

  • One of the best artist in the business right now is E.M. Gist, whose Star Wars variant covers harken back to the golden age of painted movie posters. Lucky for all of us, he’ll be in Artist Alley at #A-08.

  • Want to share your love of all things spooky plus get a free pass to WonderCon? The Hollywood Horror Museum is looking for some helpful ghouls and goblins to volunteer to man their booth. Hit them up for more info.

  • We won’t be seeing the official panel schedule until (about) March 10, but the good folks at Robotech wanted to let fans know that they will be represented with the first stop of their convention tour at WonderCon.

  • Another panel you can put on your schedule now is from the fine folks at the Fabulous Fleisher Cartoons who are working diligently to restore all those Max Fleisher gems. See then Saturday, March 25 at 10am PT.
