Under the Tents 2023: Skybound/Image, Nan Hockin, Greg Capullo, “Zorilita” Mary Bellamy

Guess what day it is! Guess. What. Day. It. Is. It’s another day with a jam-packed issue of Under the Tents, that’s what day it is. We’ve got super cuteness from Nan Hockin, Skybound/Image brings heavy Gen-X energy with The Energon Universe, Greg Capullo’s first Judge Dredd cover, and a whole lot more. Good luck getting over this massive hump of SDCC 2023 news.

Here’s a look at what you might have missed:

  • Die-cast replica manufacturer GreenLight Collectibles is celebrating their first booth at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 and wants to include everyone. Swing by Booth #834 to check out their die-cast replicas, meet the team, and pick up some swag.

  • How do I know the world is healing? Crochet drops are back at SDCC. Look for this unhatched Togepi egg from crochet artist Nifty Neuron to pop up during the convention this year.

  • Of course we have a Wednesday print on a Wednesday Under the Tents; it’s only natural. This particular print comes from artist Steve Bryant (with some help from Jason Millet) and will be available at SDCC this year.

  • She made a mix tape! OK, that was a bigger deal when I was a kid. “Zorilita” Mary Bellamy will have an anthology of her work (mix tape, get it?) at Small Press Table #N-04 as well as some mystery bags with some great merch.

  • If puzzles really put themselves together, I would have been much more interested in them. If you’re better than I am at finding pieces that fit together, David Petersen, the artist behind comic Mouse Guard, is bringing a a few of his Mouse Guard-themed puzzles to San Diego Comic-Con this year.

  • Is it a good idea for a politician to hold a panel at San Diego Comic-Con? We’ll find out when Congressman and Mayor of Long Beach Robert Garcia holds a “caucus” (that’s a panel, right?) at SDCC this year about the social and economic impacts pop culture has on our society.

  • Fans of JJ Abrams’ masterpiece LOST heading to SDCC 2023 will have a chance to appear in Getting LOST, a feature length documentary focused on the controversial series. Those of you who’ve been holding back your opinions about Season Six, this is your moment.

  • Autobots! Roll out! Skybound/Image has my weekday afternoon cartoon lineup coming to Booth #3735 with The Energon Universe. My 3:30pm show was Transformers, represented by Skybound/Image’s Transformers #1. That was followed at 4pm by that real American hero, G.I.Joe, represented by Duke #1 and Cobra Commander #1. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

  • Is this the real life? Is it just fantasy? Oh, it’s the limited print illustrator Kevin Gemser will have at Table #CC-13 for SDCC 2023. He’s only bringing 50 copies, so you’ll want to find his table quickly.

  • Are you a Cool Cat? Find your Cooltopia at Cool Cat’s Booth #1330. Right on, man. Groovy.
