We get a lot of questions about autographs, and the sad truth is, there is no easy answer. Almost every autograph session and booth has their own rules for how the autographs are run (though we do our best to compile booth and other signings in our annual signings lists).
Comic-Con International also hosts their own autograph sessions, which have different rules depending on the signing — and the 2023 list has been announced. For some, including Lore Olympus creator Rachel Smythe, the legendary Todd McFarlane, manga horror creator Junji Ito, Frank Miller, and the cast of UnderDeveloped (which includes Tom Arnold, Mark Pellegrino, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Samm Levine, and more), you’ll need to head to the Sails Pavilion that morning to draw for a ticket. If successful, you’ll receive a wristband to attend their signings. If unsuccessful, you can head to the end of the autograph drawing line to try again, until all tickets for that signing are gone. Most of these signings should be free.
Other signings, including Comic Book Men‘s Ming Chen, several members of the cast of The Owl House, The McElroy family, cast members of Demon Slayer, Beau Smith, Holly Black, J. Michael Straczynski, and others, you can simply make note of what time they will be at their table and head straight there for a signing.
Unlike the ticket draw signings, these will likely be paid signings. You may not know until you physically get to Sails where they’ll be signing at their given time. If there are any special rules for the signing, they will be listed, so read carefully.
And of course, there are also the signings in the Online Exclusives Portal, which includes TV shows like Heels, What We Do in the Shadows, Bob’s Burgers, and more. You can read more about those signings here, but you’ll need to win a timeslot through the portal in order to attend.
