Under the Tents 2023: Nan Hockin, Factory Entertainment, Mysterious Galaxy, Peanuts

Can someone please explain the appeal of avocado toast to me? I never got it. Maybe it’s because I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, where we put cream chipped beef on our toast the way the universe intended. If you catch me during San Diego Comic-Con and can tell me what we call that, I may just have an extra prize mule prize for you. But you didn’t come here for that; you came here for SDCC news, so here’s another Under the Tents with some really great SDCC news from some amazingly talented people.

Here’s a look at what you might have missed:

  • This is an Under the Tents, so let’s just start off with crochet. Crochet artist Nifty Neuron has some Ted Lasso inspiration he plans to leave somewhere around the convention center during SDCC 2023.

  • If you’re a cosplayer who’s a fan of artist Rich Douek’s work and happen to dress like one of his characters, keep an eye out for him on the Exhibit Hall floor during San Diego Comic-Con this year; he’ll have a free book and possibly more for you.

  • Artist Sean Gordon Murphy has some big plans for his time at Heavy Metal/Massive Publishing’s Booth #1529 during SDCC 2023, including signings, sketches, and a new ashcan comic.

  • Swing by Factory Entertainment’s Booth #2743 at SDCC this year to find the contents of my wallet… err, these three spectacularly detailed Star Trek starship models to debut their new FE Masterworks line of replicas.
  • Gotham needs you… to swing by Iron Studios Booth #101 to find their next SDCC 2023 exclusive in all its bronzed glory. I’m Batman.

  • Our world, nay, our galaxy, arguably, our universe, is a mystery wrapped in an enigma covered in secret sauce. What isn’t a mystery, however, is all the epic signings Mysterious Galaxy will have throughout the week at Booth #1119.

  • Artist Malia Ewart revealed her The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom piece she’s been getting ready for her Maliadoodles Table #AA-20 (and how you can get her permission to make it your next tattoo).

  • Look, we’re going to be honest with you; none of us has gotten over the disappointment of not seeing Godzilla rise out of the San Diego Harbor during SDCC 2013, so anytime we see something Godzilla-related, our collective lower eyelids twitch. Tony Bui is the latest artist to trigger us with his latest Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla-inspired piece he’s bringing to Booth #2746 on the Exhibit Hall floor this year.

  • They say idle hands do the devil’s work, so give the devil his due when you swing by Devil’s Due Studios Booth #2207 to check out who’s signing there that day and what swag-filled giveaways you can participate in during SDCC this year.

  • Calling all Marvel cosplayers! Marvel wants you to stop by their Booth #2329 during SDCC this year to participate in a different cosplay event each day of the convention.

  • Do witches shimmer? If vampires can, why can’t they? You can explore these concepts with brilliant artist Nan Hockin when you see her at her Small Press Table #F-11 and find these adorable shimmering witch mini originals.
