Space may be the final frontier — but UC San Diego is ready to boldly tackle how to write about it.
The university will be hosting Star Trek actors George Takei and John Cho as part of their “The Science of Story” Masterclass, in partnership with The Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writer’s Workshop, during San Diego Comic-Con. The full five days of programming will take place from Tuesday, July 23 – Sunday, July 28.
The immersive, all-inclusive event will feature on-campus housing, access to the Masterclass, and three spectacular events at the Epstein Family Amphitheater: “A Tale of Two Sulus: An Evening with George Takei and John Cho” (on Tuesday, July 23), a screening of the 2009 Star Trek film with the score performed live by the San Diego Symphony (on Wednesday, July 24), and a Shark Week screening of JAWS in partnership with Birch Aquarium (on Saturday, July 27).
There are several packages available, ranging from $425 for access to all events up to $1200 which includes five nights of accommodations — so for those still needing a hotel, this could be a great alternative with plenty of perks. Tickets are now live, and you can find more information on the event website.
Additionally, for those who are UC, CSU, or California Community college students or UC alumni, UC San Diego is also offering four-night accomodation in their dorms for just $640, which also includes a 5-day MTS trolley Blue line pass to get downtown to the Convention Center.
Single tickets for A Tale of Two Sulus are also available for $25-$75 now.
