SDCC 2024 Programming Schedule: Friday Highlights

It’s two weeks away from Comic-Con, and CCI is releasing the programming schedule for Comic-Con 2024 in its annual fashion. We’ll be bringing you the highlights of each day as they’re announced.

We’ll also be discussing our thoughts on this year’s lineup, including our top picks, what time to line up, room flow, and more in a special series of live podcasts this weekend. The first of which will cover Thursday’s and Friday’s lineup, and will be on Friday July 12 at 9:30PM ET/6:30PM PT (which is tonight!)

With that said, let’s dive right into Friday. If movies are what you’re after, then Friday has several offerings. You’ll find Collider back with their “Directors on Directing” panel in Hall H at 4pm, with Antoine Fuqua and Roland Emmerich to discuss their work, followed at 5:15pm with Alien: Romulus, the latest entry into the franchise, with cast members Cailee Spaeny and more.

Elsewhere, you’ll find The Tower in 6A at 4:45pm with stars Bella Thorne and Cam Gigandet in attendance. Actress’ Melissa Barrera and Katy O’Brian (plus more still to be revealed) will be part of Collider “Ladies Night” in Ballroom 20 at 2pm.

Writer and producer Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) discusses her new WEBTOON webcomic and writing at 10am in 32AB.

And for those who want to get a behind-the-scenes look into moviemaking, there are plenty of options, including a Hollywood Locations Scout panel at 1pm in Room 9, an in-depth look at the making of super suits with costume designers at 1pm in Marriott Marquis Grand 10 & 11, and discover more about the world of set decorators with creatives from Guardians of the GalaxyFalloutLoki, and more at 2pm in Room 9.

But as per usual, TV reigns supreme on Friday at Comic-Con. Hall H kicks off at 10am with The Boys, then continues on all day with a stacked schedule: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power at 11am; Doctor Who at 12:30pm; The Walking Dead: Dead City at 1:45pm; and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon—The Book of Carol at 2:45pm. It’s going to be a very busy day, but we expect a decent amount of turnover between panels (but more on that on tonight’s podcast).

Over in Ballroom 20 for TV, things technically kick off with the 24th Annual Animation Show of Shows at 10am. Fans will get an exclusive advanced screening of Snowpiercer at 11:15am as it chugs into its final season. TV Guide is back with two of their two big panels — “Fan Favorites” and “Brave Warriors”. Neither lists cast yet, but it typically pulls in some exciting names from around the con (my prediction? Jack Quaid, who seems to be the single busiest person at Comic-Con). There’s a gap at 4:30 then for trailer park, which suggests something dropped out or is still TBA, followed by Dexter: Original Sin at 5:45pm and The Dragon Prince full season six screening (with pin giveaway!) at 7pm.

There’s plenty of other TV around the rest of the convention as well. In the Indigo Ballroom, it’s all animation, all the time, with Common Side EffectsRick and Morty: The AnimeSolar OppositesThe Great NorthBob’s Burgers, and more. You’ll also find Gremlins: The Wild Batch at 2:15pm in Room 6A, with Ming-Na Wen and more, as well as an inside look behind the brick at LEGO Masters at 4:30pm in Room 6BCF, and a sneak peek inside Prime Video’s Like a Dragon: Yakuza at 2:30pm in Room 5AB with a “surprise A-list star”.

There’s also a “Game Actors on Game Actors” panel at 11:30am in 6BCF which includes Sean Astin, as well as Harley Quinn and Kite Man at 8:15pm in the same room.

Learn how Hollywood and Comics collide at 11:15am in Room 6DE with actor Thomas Jane, actor/writer David Dastmalchian, comic book writer Marc Bernardin, and more.

Discover what a “Blerd” is at an all-star panel at 3pm in Marriott Marquis Grand 12 & 13 with actor Malm Barrett, Bernardin, actor/comedian/wrestler Jay Washington, and more.

Nacelle, the force behind Netflix’s The Movies That Made Us, will give updates on their upcoming projects including the animated Biker Mice from Mars at 8pm in Room 6DE.

For fans of comics, Friday is a very strong day. You’ll find a spotlight on FoxTrot comic creator Bill Amend at 12pm in Room 9, delve into new worlds with DSTLRY at 11am in Room 23ABC, and hear from comics legends of the ’70’s and beyond including Gerry Conway, Jo Duffy, Marv Wolfman, Paul Levitz at 10:30am in Room 10.

To steal a phrase from our own Erin Tapken, it’s a “turtnado” of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles happenings at the con this year, including a 40th anniversary celebration with IDW at 10am in Room 25ABC.

Get the low-down on Image Comics’ “Enter the Massive-Verse” at 11:45am in Room 6A, or roll out for the “Transformers & G.I. Joe: The Energon Universe” panel at 4:30pm in Room 5AB. Discover more about Terry Moore and the world of Kickstarting comics at 4pm in Room 29AB; or join some heavy-hitters at Dynamite Entertainment’s 20th anniversary celebration at 11:30am in Room 5AB including Gail Simone, David Pepose, and more.

You can get a masterclass from the legendary J. Michael Straczynski at his Workshop at 7pm in Room 11. Prefer to draw? Manga legend Katsuya Terada will be hosting a live drawing session at 3pm in Room 11.

There’s plenty of Hollywood-star power on the comics side this year as well, with writer/actor Josh Gad on hand to discuss his recent Dark Horse comic at 12:30pm in Room 6DE. Writer and producer Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) discusses her new WEBTOON webcomic and writing at 10am in 32AB. Comedian Maria Bamford and her husband discuss their graphic memoir at 10am in Room 4. Comedian/writer/actor Brian Posehn discusses his work with Image Comics at 6pm in Room 6A.

Get toxic with AHOY Comics at 5pm in Room 28DE as they explode all of their news for their upcoming The Toxic Avenger comic, with Troma director Lloyd Kaufman.

But the biggest comics news of the day is surely that Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige is joining the annual Marvel Fanfare panel with C.B. Cebulski at 3pm in Room 6DE, for what is surely much too small of a room. Plus, there’s a giveaway comic?! You’ll also find Cebulski and VP of digital media and creative strategy Ryan Penagos on their annual panel, “Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing” at 4:15pm in Room 6DE.

You’ll also find Marvel Comics’ with Tsuburaya Productions for an Ultraman panel at 6:30pm in Room 5AB, with an appearance by Ultraman himself.

Then of course, there’s the annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards at 8pm in Indigo Ballroom, where creators are honored for their work in the 36th annual iteration of this event.

Naomi Voki, a founder of Archive of Our Own, gets a spotlight panel at 3pm in Room 25ABC to discuss her Temeraire series.

Funko funatics can get the lowdown on the company’s game at the “Funko Fusion: A Festival of Fandom” panel at 10:15am in Room 6BCF. Step back into the world of Thedas as Dragon Age finally (!!) makes its return, both to gaming platforms and to the con, at 3:15pm in Room 6BCF.

And finally, are you feeling… musical? Because the annual Dr. Horrible screening is back with karaoke, at 8:30pm in Room 6A.

You can also read the programming highlights for Thursday.
