Under The Tents 2024: Alex Pardee, Jeff Pina, Taco Boy Designs, Victoria Ying, Robin Hobb

We are getting so close to Comic-Con and now is the time to start putting some plans together if you haven’t already. For me, I am looking forward to trying Prince Street Pizza after I forgot to do so last year. Speaking of food, this edition of Under The Tents includes some updates on Taco Boy Designs, Eggdrop Ramen, and other not-food-but-equally-exciting-names, including Jeff Pina, Victoria Ying, Robin Hobb, and Alex Pardee to name a few.

Let’s take a look at the news:

  • Who’s a good boy? Who deserves a treat? Treat yourself to Little Friends of Printmaking new “Treats Boy: He Loves Treats” print heading to San Diego Comic-Con Booth #2046.

  • Writer and author Mellow Brown has a less-than-mellow San Diego Comic-Con schedule, that’s packed full of panels (including a Blade Runner panel for the Penguin Random House series set for Thursday at 12:30pm in Room 24ABC), and signings (including one on Thursday at 12pm and one on Friday at 4pm at the Titan Booth #5537).

  • Pro-wrestler Brimestone is stepping into the ring (metaphorically speaking, anyway) at San Diego Comic-Con for autographs. His full schedule for the Celebrity Autograph Area in Sails includes:
    • Friday, July 26 2:30pm-7pm
    • Saturday, July 27 2:30pm-7pm
    • Sunday, July 28 10am-1:30pm

  • Artist Jeff Pina has been very busy, creating lots of new hand-drawn originals for his Small Press #Q-06 booth. No matter your fandom, you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy.

In addition, he’ll be debuting Ghostronaut Book One; SuperPawn voL.02, and I Frickin’ Love You, Buddy at his booth.

  • Taco Boy Designs is bringing quite the selection of on-brand goods to San Diego Comic-Con which includes bags and stickers. That is not all however as they will have a nice glow in the dark Spawn print and a fantastic Alien x Hello Kitty mashup canvas piece. What type of taco is your favorite? I’m partial to a good carne asada taco w/cilantro (hold the onion).

  • How about some panel news (spoiler, you might find a few panel announcements in this UTT)? Let’s start with Rachel Lesihman hosting the “Unpacking The Female Characters In Nerdom” for The Mary Sue. Panelists include a variety of individuals ready to discuss all things female characters on Friday, July 26.

  • A mystery grab bag of art is something I can get behind and Nan Hockin is making them a reality at Comic-Con this year. After discovering a stash from last year, Nan is slashing the price by half and they look to include a variety of buttons, postcards, and small prints. $10 looks to be a great value!

  • Author of The Farseer Trilogy among other works, Robin Hobb announced on social media that they will being at Comic-Con for a signing in the Sails Pavilion from 2:30P to 7P.

  • The next major holiday is Halloween according to Michael’s. Get into the holiday spirit early with some ghoulish girlies from artist Nan Hockin, who showed off seven new mini prints headed to #F-11 in Small Press.

  • Artist Jonathan Bolerjack is making a bold prediction: That his Spawn Virgin Mexico Foil will be the biggest exclusive of the con. There will be signing options and blue labels available as well. We’re not sure if Bolerjack is right, but we also wouldn’t bet against him.

  • Harvey Award winning cartoonist Victoria Ying took to social media to show off a piece in prep of SDCC. Any Raven/Teen Titan fans? Victoria will be at Artist Alley DD04. Azarath Metrion Zinthos!

  • More panel news ahead of the official schedule release this week with “Authors on the Best Advice I’ve Ever Had” which according to author Scott Guild will be happening on Sunday, July 28. Scott will be joined by a handful of other authors in what will surely be an entertaining and informative panel.

  • Voice actress Debi Derryberry, who you might know from Jimmy Neutron, will be signing in the Sails Pavilion all four days at Comic-Con. Debi’s credits also include Monster High, Crash Bandicoot, Genshin Impact and the recent FOX series Grimsburg

  • We have a pretty extensive commissions post but we still like to spotlight some of the talented artists such as Naoko Mullally. Naoko will be opening up a limited number of spots on site during SDCC. You can find Naoko and their great work at 5500 on the exhibit floor.
