Publisher Hermes Press, specializing in archival reprints and comic books, will be back at San Diego Comic-Con this year, at Booth #1821/1823 with several exclusives and a panel.
In conjunction with King Features, and in the 95th year of the character’s year as a comic strip, Hermes will exclusively be premiering their new hardcover, Popeye: A Masterwork of the Medium at San Diego Comic-Con. This 192 page full-color hardcover will be available ahead of it’s September release date and includes a numbered, limited edition print by current Popeye artist Randy Milholland.
This 10″ x 11″ comprehensive book is a treasure trove of original comic strip artwork, animation artwork, comic books, animation, movie posters, original comic book artwork, and toys and collectibles. Written by pop culture historian R.C. Harvey with a forward by artist Randy Millholland.
The first 25 attendees to purchase Popeye: A Masterwork of the Medium for $65 will receive a limited edition print for free.
Additionally, Hermes and King Features will be premiering Mandrake the Magician Volume One the Complete Dailies, also with a limited edition print free with purchase. This 288-page hardcover is presented in landscape format, 8.5″ x 12″ and will be $60. The free-with-purchase print is limited to 50 copies and is shown below.
A brand new Phantom coloring book will be available for purchase, along with books from the late Trina Robbins, Babes in Arms and the Eisner nominated Glady Parker. Samples of the upcoming Art of George Wilson and The Art and Life of Mort Walker will be there for attendees to peruse.
On Friday, July 26 in room 32AB at 3pm join Hermes Press publisher Daniel Herman, Anthony Taylor, Brian Peck and Comic-Con Special Guest Joe Jusko for Premiering the Art of George Wilson to discuss Wilson’s painted comic book covers in the Silver Age and Bronze Age and the new Hermes Press’ book, The Art of George Wilson, the first in-depth art book to span his 40 year career.
