Wonderpost 2022: E.M. Gist, KRS Comics, Tom Hodges, S. Preston, Patrick Ballesteros

WonderCon is just around the corner (less than a month!), and booth confirmations went out, so there’s LOTS of news to share from exhibitors, creators, and artists who you will be able to peruse in person very soon. Whether you’re looking for Funko Pop!s at a bargain, a new pop culture purse, fantastic art, or your new favorite comic — you’re sure to find it on the WonderCon show floor (and in this WonderPost).

Here’s a look at the news you might have missed:

  • Scotty won’t even have to beam you up to visit the U.S.S. Navras, the flagship chapter of Star Trek‘s 1701st Fleet. You can visit them during WonderCon at FC-24.

  • We’ve got some collective healing to do and maybe our love of comic books and popular media can help us. Bobbiejean “BG” Garcia and friends will be discussing the connections between mental health and trauma and the fictions that we love. If you have questions or suggestions related to this topic, be sure to reach out.

  • Illustrator and concept artist Yoshi Yoshitani is easing back into the convention scene, but luckily WonderCon made the cut. Keep your eyes peeled for their beautiful Kitsune collection.

  • Creator David Baron released a few more details about what he’ll be offering during WonderCon, including sketches, signatures, remarques and more. You’ll be able to find him in Artist Alley at table E-24.

  • And while you’re visiting David’s booth, check out John Livesay at the table next door. John promises that all 5 issues of his creator owned series, Slow City Blues, will be available for purchase at the show.

  • Wishes really do come true, as proven by Audrey of Maintaining Mediocrity, artist and Twitch streamer, who was celebrating on Twitter about getting off the WonderCon waitlist and being confirmed for Artist Alley. Visit Audrey and check out all they have to offer, including these adorable boba pins.

  • Someone else you’ll find in Artist Alley is E.M. Gist, cover artist for Dark Horse, DC, Boom and Marvel. We think Gist is one of the best cover artist working today and look forward to seeing his glorious art in person.

  • If “New Comic Book Day” is something you celebrate weekly then you will be happy hear that KRS Comics has announced they will be exhibiting at WonderCon. You’ll be able to find all your favorite comics and hopefully a selection of their very popular exclusive covers as well. KRS Comics is one the premiere online comic book stores based in San Diego.

  • Hey Marvel talent scouts! Artist Lak Lim will be in Artist Alley at table D-30 and hoping to catch your eye with this wonderful Wolverine art. He’s not wrong, this would make an excellent variant cover. See it in person at WonderCon.

  • Wouldn’t be a WonderPost without a little Patrick Ballesteros, right? Here’s a new piece, part of Patrick’s “Can You Hear Me Now” series, featuring Coco‘s Miguel and Encanto‘s Camilo.

  • Funko fans better bring an extra tote bag, you’re probably gonna need it. Seven Bucks A Pop, the online shop for PopShield and PopShield Armor Pop protectors, will be slinging their treasures from the floor of the exhibit hall at booth #281. They are promising exclusives and in-booth signings, both of which sound worth lining up for.

  • The creative and inspirational folks behind Whimsical World Books, Sheri Fink and Derek Taylor Kent, recently posted on Instagram that they are including WonderCon on their in-person events this year. This will be a fantastic booth for the whole family.

  • Marjory Steele of Elk B-Sides makes finely crafted pop culture bags, wallets, clutches and accessories, and is venturing to WonderCon where you’ll be able to see and purchase their items in person. This Pixar inspired piece, and the Moana bag are absolutely adorable!

  • Sequential and concept artist Tom Hodges will be returning to WonderCon and hopefully bring a trove of his fantastic art with him. Find him in Artist Alley at table C-16.

And if that’s not enough from Pina, you can also pick up his original Loss Of Signal Vol.01 as it makes its WonderCon debut.

  • Artist Erik Arrega is hittin’ the road this year with 10+ conventions, but he kicks things off at WonderCon. You can find him in Small Press at SP-95, with “tons of goodies”.

  • Score! S. Preston, sports artist for MLB and NHL, and the creator of the Ballpark Princess art series, will be heading to WonderCon. You can catch him at Booth #2173.

Chris Ryall, presumably with his World of Syzygy publishing company, revealed that he will be at WonderCon this year — and he has a demand, er, request of you.
