Comic-Con PreParty

Live Art featuring Sean Dietrich, Kai Martin, Chanel Penley, Christine Penley, Vincent Gordon, Michael Briones, Brian Hebets, Eric Evenson and Stiska Designs. In addition, there will be live comedy brought to you by host John Ceccon!

Wednesday 7/22

Insomniac Games and SCEA are hosting a community event, co-sponsored with G4, to unveil the winner of the “Captain Qwark’s My Blaster Runs Hot” weapons contest and present them with a real-life replica of the weapon they created. In addition to the contest winner unveil, there will be a special reveal and maybe you’ll be cool enough to be one of the first to go hands-on with new Clank gameplay.
Comic-Con TweetUp
A TweetUp (Twitter MeetUp) especially for Comic-Con will be held at Voyeur, 755 5th Avenue. Open to the public, but it is a 21+ event. RSVP HERE

Looking to start your Comic-Con experience off right? When preview night ends, your night out begins.

This will mark the second annaul Evil Empire Job Fair, with The Suicide Girls, White Wolf, and The Evil League of Evil.

Friday 7/24
Paramount Home Entertainment is hosting a happy hour at Henry’s Irish Pub for the DVD debut of Road Trip: Beer Pong (Aug. 11), complete with beer pong girls, games, and, of course, beer.
Location: 4th and B, 345 B Street
Enjoy a live performance featuring Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim. Much like the television series on Adult Swim, the live show is a fast-paced, variety show, complete with short films, parodies, pranks and musical numbers.
Popular Twilight bloggers and podcasters will join together to discuss all the New Moon-related events from earlier that day at Comic Con. Twilight & New Moon live podcast begins at 7:30 PM PST and will take place at Border’s Books in the Gaslamp area located at 6th and G St., near the convention center. Organizers hint that “special guests” will be in attendance to sign one Twilight-related item purchased at the store. You do not need to be registered for Comic Con to attend, however wristbands will be required and will be distributed starting at 10AM on the day of the event. More details:
Brian Posehn & Doug Benson live comedy show at Balboa Theater
Doug Benson has appeared on Comedy Central Presents, Best Week Ever, and most recently as a contestant on Last Comic Standing. Benson was part of a writing team that created (and performed) in The Marijuana-Louges. Brian Posehn known for his roles as mail clerk Kevin Liotta on NBC’s Just Shoot Me!, as a cast member of HBO’s Mr. Show, and Brian Spukowski on Comedy Central’s The Sarah Silverman Program.

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School ComicCon Afterparty at the Ruby Room in Hillcrest (1271 University Ave.), 21 and up
Artist Molly Crabapple, creator of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, a chain of cabaret life-drawing classes now in over 100 cities across the globe, will be hosting a Comic Con afterparty and life-drawing class like no other. Molly and co-author John Leavitt will bring their first graphic novel, “Scarlett Takes Manhattan” to life on the Ruby Room stage. San Diego burlesque performer Lady Borgia poses as Scarlett, a poor bowery orphan in victorian New York City turned vaudeville sensation. Admission $12, $6 with Con badge, FREE with purchase of “Scarlett Takes Manhattan” (visit Molly and John at the Comic Relief booth on Friday from 3-4 PM). Bring your art supplies.

Horror Film Showcase and Comic-Con After-Party

Join us for a teeerifying horror film showcase by 1134 Films! On the turntables, we’ll be hearing a performance by LEGENDARY San Diego DJ Mark E. Quark! He’s one of the biggest guns San Diego has, and his mixing style and track selection are simply unmatched. DJ’s Schugar and Ian Dunn will be warming up the floor. But that’s not all, we’ll also be seeing live art performances by Sean Dietrich, Kai Martin, Brian Hebets and Raggatron!

It’s the return of COMIC STRIP! A comic-themed burlesque show! See your favorite comic book heroes come to life on the burlesque stage! Adult Swim to host the kick-off skate party for “Robot Chicken on Wheels”, at Skate San Diego, 700 East 24th St., National City.
