For a short time last week, Comic-Con International was taking volunteer registrations for San Diego Comic-Con through the Member ID site before the link was taken down. Since then, we’ve been getting a steady stream of requests from our readers regarding the status of volunteer registration, and when it might again become available.
We asked CCI, and unfortunately if you didn’t have a chance during that brief window, you’re out of luck. The official word from the organization is that volunteer registration for Comic-Con 2013 is now closed, and there are no plans to reopen volunteer registration prior to this year’s convention.
Volunteering has proven a very popular way for fans to attend the convention and help contribute to making it an awesome event for all of us. As a nonprofit organization, CCI depends on the contributions of its volunteers to help run its events, having an estimated 3,400 across its three conventions in 2010. But as with badge registrations, the immense popularity of SDCC means there’s simply no way to accommodate everyone interested.
The good news is, WonderCon Anaheim 2013 volunteer registration will open soon. Held in the spring and generally regarded as the mini-SDCC, its popularity has also been increasing in recent years, both with fans and media companies. So if you’re still interested and available March 29-31, give it a shot!
