Diamond Comics Distributors and sister-company Diamond Select Toys have been bringing some great licensed exclusives to San Diego Comic-Con over the years, whether it’s an exclusive variant cover of a hot comic or some of their great toys from the Diamond line-up. Last year’s exclusives, announced June 8, included some great variants from IDW, Marvel and Dark Horse, as well as Minimates sets, BE@RBRICKs and more.
What will they have in store for attendees in 2014? We’ll update this master post as soon as information is made available.
[UPDATE July 8] Diamond Select Toys has at least one more San Diego Comic-Con exclusive up its sleeves – a set of Bluntman and Chronic Minimates variants. The Minimates set will be available at the Entertainment Earth Booth #2343 for $10.
Bluntman & Chronic Minimates ($10): Look, up in the sky, it’s Bluntman and Chronic! The comic-book heroes created by director Kevin Smith are living the high life, with a variety of products coming out from Diamond Select Toys based on their appearances in “Jay & SIlent Bob Strike Back.” Now, they’re getting a Comic-Con-exclusive 2-pack of Minimates mini-figures, only available through Toys “R” Us, and it’s based on their comic book appearances! With new facial expressions and paint schemes that reflect the costumes worn in their now-classic comic book mini-series, Bluntman and Chronic each stand 2 inches tall with 14 points of articulation and a variety of interchangeable parts. The two-pack comes packaged on a blister card.
[UPDATE June 23] Diamond today announced a couple of new comic variants that are sure to please the Whovians attending Comic-Con. The Tenth and Eleventh Doctors both receive SDCC variants of their respective Doctor Who #1 issues from Titan Comics. Here’s a look at the two covers, which beautifully interlock to create a panoramic picture of the Gaslamp. Each issue is limited to 3000 copies.

[UPDATE 2 – June 13] Actually, Diamond has 24 exclusives this year, as Diamond Select Toys has revealed an additional two exclusives – a Star Trek Electronic Starship available for $70, and a Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back Retro Action Figure for $20. [UPDATE June 1] Our first peek at this year’s Diamond exclusives comes by way of Star Wars fan site Yakface.com, which spotted mention of a Spirit Yoda Vinyl Bank in the latest Star Wars Insider magazine. Here’s the description from that mention in Insider #150:
Diamond Select Toys will be attending San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC) in July and will be taking a selection of its barware, vinyl banks, and other items for exhibition and purchase! There will be an exclusive vinyl bank available at the convention featuring Spirit Yoda from Return of the Jedi, which stands 7″ high. A limited quantity will be available at Diamond Select Toys booth (#2607) and other booths around the convention floor.
