Hasbro SDCC Exclusives 2014 [UPDATE July 10]

One of the most intense experiences at Comic-Con each year is the battle to get a rare spot in the Hasbro line. Last year it was reported from a number of our vendor friends that the line was capped for Hasbro in under 30 seconds on Preview Night. Yes, you read that correctly — 30 seconds. With Hasbro having some of the highest resale value of any SDCC exclusive, so it goes without saying that Hasbro is going to be one of the most popular spots this year as it is again the intersection of some of the most popular fandoms.

Whether you’re hunting Star Wars, Transformers, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony, Marvel or a number of other awesome items, Hasbro is the booth that is going to get your attention. Just remember if you want any of these awesome items, you’ll most likely need to forego a day in Ballroom 20 or Hall H to achieve it and even then it may not happen.

Over the next several weeks, Hasbro will be unveiling all of its SDCC exclusives for 2014, and we’ll update as soon as new exclusive items are announced.

With that said, let’s see what Hasbro has in store for SDCC attendees this year:

[UPDATE July 10] We’ve been asked a lot by our readers, “when will a Magic: The Gathering exclusive be announced?” Well, thanks to Hasbro and USA Today, the wait is no more. Behold, the NERF Garruk’s Axe:

1404968554000-Magic-exclusive

The axe comes with “six limited-edition, alternate-art Planeswalkers Magic cards illustrated by comic-book artist Jae Lee”, according to the post on USA Today. The set will sell for $110.99 at the HasbroToyShop booth, with a limited number available online after the convention.

It was also mentioned artist Lee will be doing a signing at the Hasbro booth on Saturday July 26 from 9-10am.

Now will be a good time to brush up on your Hasbro exclusive hunting strategies – check out the video from Shawn “The Con Fluence” Marshall to improve your odds of picking this up. And, stop by our Enchantment Under The SDCC 2014 reader party for a chance to win a HasbroToyShop VIP pass, which gets you no-wait access to the booth to purchase your exclusives.

[UPDATE July 8] We’ve been waiting for awhile something to really blow us out of the water from Hasbro, and what MTV has just exclusively announced may just be it – a ROM: The Space Knight toy robot, based on the original robot ROM created in 1979 that, in the words of MTV, “kind of sucked just a little bit”. However, when ROM got a tie-in comic from Marvel, its sales skyrocketed – until in 1986, when Marvel’s rights to ROM ran out. Now, thanks to Hasbro, ROM is back.

Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs line is getting a ROM The Space Knight figure available at San Diego Comic-Con, with a limited number available online after. The non-articulate 5.5 inch robot will run only $22.99. From the MTV page, here’s the description:

MIGHTY MUGGS ROM THE SPACE KNIGHT Special Edition Figure

Celebrate the 35th anniversary of the iconic ROM THE SPACE KNIGHT toy with this special edition MIGHTY MUGG! Since the release of the original Parker Brothers toy in 1979, ROM THE SPACE KNIGHT has built a devoted following, and now toy fans will be able to purchase the first MIGHTY MUGG ROM THE SPACE KNIGHT figure, featuring 5.5 inches of 100% recycled awesome! Following the convention, a limited number will be available on HasbroToyShop.com.

[UPDATE MAY 5] Entertainment Weekly has exclusively revealed our first look at Hasbro’s San Diego Comic-Con offerings, and just like last year, our first glimpse is from Hasbro’s Black Series collectibles line. For 2014, Hasbro will be bringing a Black Series Jabba the Hutt (which, for the record, we called in our Toy Fair recap). This 6-inch figure also comes complete with a hookah and his “cackling, diminutive sidekick Salacious Crumb”. The box features some Huttese – and what looks like enough room to place last year’s Comic-Con exclusive Black Series Han Solo in Carbonite. The Star Wars The Black Series Facebook fan page is reporting that the retail value for this exclusive will be $64.99 – so start planning now.

Here’s a look at the figure and the packaging, from Hasbro:
