We’re one more Monday closer to SDCC 2019, and this edition of Under the Tents will shake off any Monday blues you may have. We have news from Lorelay Bové, Johnny Dope Kicks, Chase Masterson, and a lot more.
Here’s a look at what you might have missed:
- I hear 30 is the new 20. The Over30Cosplay group would love to see you at their SDCC panel at the Marriott Marquis & Marina on Friday, July 19 with special guest, stuntwoman Patricia Tallman.

- If you’re still as “shook” from Avengers: Endgame as I am, you might see me at John Campea’s panel “After Endgame: Where Does the Comic Genre Go from Here”. I’ll be the one in the corner rocking back and forth still crying.

- Genesis II Comics is raising the bar on booths this year, if this behind-the-scenes look at one of their character models is any indication.

- Keep an eye on Mike Mayhew’s Instagram feed (or just keep reading Under the Tents) — he has some big SDCC 2019 announcements, including an exclusive variant cover, coming very soon.

- Have you seen our new Commissions post yet? Artists have been opening their SDCC commission pre-orders left and right. According to his Twitter thread, artist Tom Raney plans to open his commissions sometime this week. Look for his announcement on Twitter as well as our Commissions post updates.
- One brilliant artist we recently added to our Commissions post is Mexican artist Adalisa Zarate. Look for her and her amazing work at Table #AA-15 in Artists’ Alley.

- If you’re a fan of artist Andy Kuhn’s Cabana-Con, it looks like it may not happen this year. That’s too bad — it certainly sounds like the right way to do SDCC.
Not sure if it’s happening this year, but Tim Seeley and I have done Cabana-Con for the last three years. It’s a pop up even where we rent a cabana at The Marriott and have a big stupid meet & greet.

- Artist Lea Hernandez Seidman will be back in Artists’ Alley this year at Table #BB-09 with new prints and Teen Titans Go! trades and box sets. While you’re there, you can talk to her about her first Teen Titans Go! story she wrote. She’d be happy to discuss it with you.

- Disney artist Lorelay Bové keeps the tiki theme going in her latest beautiful mini-painting for #SDCC.

- Every Trekkie’s favorite DS9 “Dabo Girl,” Chase Masterson, has been rounding up guests for her SDCC 2019 Pop Culture Hero Coalition panel. Masterson holds this panel every year to promote her anti-bullying campaign within the entertainment industry.
@kibblesmith Hey Daniel! Thanks again for doing the @SuperheroIRL panel at #C2E2! Would love to have you on our panel at SDCC — any chance you're interested & available on SDCC Thurs 7/18 at 11 am? 🙂

- We saved the best for last on this one – Comic artist Johnny Dope Kicks teased a sample of his latest work: A Black Mans Guide to Getting Pulled Over by the Police 2.0. You’ll find this and a lot more of his brilliant work at Table #N-14 in Small Press at SDCC.
A little tease from A Black Mans Guide to Getting Pulled Over by the Police 2.0, drawn by the amazingly talented @5horas ! The finished product will premier at San Diego Comic Con at table N-14. #ArtistOnTwitter #art #comics #indycomics #zine #blacklivesmatter #sdcc19 #comiccon pic.twitter.com/72UC0LVR33
