It’s already shaping up to be a busy week in the world of San Diego Comic-Con and WonderCon, and we’re not done yet. Today, we’ve got a new round of updates for you on SDCC, with news of some of our favorite artists returning, as well as news on a certain hooker (not that kind!), and more.
Here’s a look at the news you might have missed:
- Get ready to blast off with our friends at Monkey Minion, who make beautiful artwork, often focused around space, nature, and pop culture. This year, their convention schedule thus far includes both WonderCon and San Diego Comic-Con, and after last year’s beautiful SDCC exclusives, we can’t wait to see what Dane and Ashley can create for 2023.

- It’s never too early to start planning! Artist Val Hochberg has commission slots available on her site now, for a traditional chibi character commission of $50 for one character, or $65 for two. If you select DIGITAL ART at checkout so you aren’t charged for shipping, and simply add a note that you’d like to pick-up at San Diego Comic-Con (or WonderCon), she’ll have your art waiting for you.
- And speaking of Val Hochberg, she’s already hard at work on new charms for her conventions this year, including San Diego Comic-Con. Will you be picking up these cuties at the con?
MORE ARTS! Two new charm designs I've been working on! Hoping to have them for my upcoming comic conventions! I hope you like themmmm~ 🥰 pic.twitter.com/npzI92J8hm

- Bone creator Jeff Smith and Cartoon Books are hitting several conventions this year for “The Dawn of Man Tour”, as their first national tour in several years. Among their stops include San Diego Comic-Con, where Smith will be a Special Guest — meaning he’ll get a spotlight panel at the convention. He also promises a signing at every stop, so that should include SDCC.
- Let’s get spooky. The Hollywood Horror Museum will be at both WonderCon and San Diego Comic-Con this year, which are likely to be their only two convention stops for the year.

We will be at WonderCon Anaheim in March, San Diego Comic-Con in July, other than that, it's unlikely because it costs us so much money to travel out of state, gas, hotel, food etc. It's hard to break even 😢
- While our friend artist Henry Liao won’t be at WonderCon this year, he will be back at SDCC — and we highly recommend him for a great commission.
- Our favorite Hooker is heading back to San Diego Comic-Con this year — and get your mind out of the gutter! We mean Geeky Hooker, obviously, who crochets adorable, pop culture “critters” she then leaves around the convention center and surrounding areas to be found by lucky congoers. Do you have an idea for her critter round-up for 2023? Be sure to let her know on Twitter.
Alright guys, it’s about time I started brainstorming, what critters would you like to see at SDCC 2023??

- Zenescope is hitting the road this summer for several conventions, where they’ll have “limited edition collectibles, new releases and exclusive merchandise” — and that includes San Diego Comic-Con.
- Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man comic artist Todd Nauck is returning to San Diego Comic-Con. Looking to secure a commission from him? Be sure to bookmark his page and follow his procedures closer to the con.
- Ringo Award nominated comic book writer Erica Schultz, creator of Forgotten Home and co-creator of Bylines in Blood, Strange Tails, and M3, lists San Diego Comic-Con as her second convention appearance for the year. We’ll have to stay tuned for more information.
- While we already told you that fantasy author Erin Hunt Rado will be making the trek to WonderCon, we didn’t tell you yet that she will also be at San Diego Comic-Con. Well, now we have. You can find her at Small Press Q-4 this summer.
- Wicked Tree Press will also be heading to both WonderCon and SDCC this year, so stop by to get your sci-fi, fantasy, and horror books and comics.
