WonderPost 2023: Wicked Tree Press, Monkey Minion, Jin Yung Kim

Well, it’s February and in between football games and groundhogs and spy balloons there is one shining beacon of hope….WonderCon Anaheim is next month!

We already know about 16 official Special Guests, but what about everything else? Luckily, we have the intel on work-in-progress peeks plus loads of appearance confirmations from first timers and exhibit floor staples.

Let’s take a look at the news you might have missed:

  • Comic book artist Don Nguyen was recently tasked with creating some Upper Deck Marvel Sketch Cards, but he’s carved out some time in his schedule for WonderCon 2023. You’ll want to swing by and check out his creator owned comic Pablo The Gorilla.

  • Joe Plant Comix creator Hanna Strauss has been making plans for the spring growing season and is looking to cultivate some interest in their Origins book at WonderCon.

  • TPub Comics, the UK based publisher of Twisted Dark, Tabitha, Transmissions and more, revealed that they will be at WonderCon in this two-for-one Twitter thread with White Ash writer, Charles Stickney, who will also be there.

  • Illustrator Dan Veesenmeyer, who has worked with Hasbro, Mondo and LEGO, made the difficult decision to skip WonderCon 2023. We are sure this wasn’t an easy decision to make but our hopes are high that we’ll get to see him later this year at San Diego Comic-Con.

  • Another friendly face that we won’t be seeing in Anaheim in March is illustrator Henry Liao. Henry is taking a pass on WonderCon but confirms that he will be at SDCC in July.
  • That’s enough bad news for one day, let’s get back to the fun news, like this tweet from artist and illustrator NerfAlice, who will be doing back-to-back conventions, starting with WonderCon.

  • Despite the rising costs of gas, food and lodging, the Hollywood Horror Museum is dedicated on making it to WonderCon 2023 to scare the daylights out of you.

  • Artist Jin Young Kim (JYK All Day) is already working on new items to sell at WonderCon, and is giving us a little sneak peek of a new 5″ x 7″ print of Luke Skywalker he’ll have.

  • In addition to all the other festivities, WonderCon Anaheim is the site of the opening of the Los Angeles International Children’s Film Festival. You’ll be able to see more than fifty short films from across the globe, with appearance from many of the filmmakers. Even though we won’t see the rest of the WonderCon panel schedule until mid-March, you can find the entire LAICFF schedule on their web site.
  • We are so excited for creator Michele Fried, and her business, Hand Crafted Geekdom, who has announced she will be exhibiting at WonderCon for the very first time. Congrats, Michele!
