Special Guests for WonderCon Anaheim 2023 Revealed [UPDATE February 23]

WonderCon is back! Comic-Con International is busy preparing for their Anaheim convention and couldn’t wait to give us a “sneak peek” at four guests who have already confirmed they’ll be at the Anaheim Convention Center March 24-26.

The final round of Special Guests for WonderCon Anaheim 2023 have been revealed. From Comic-Con International’s Toucan Blog, the new round includes:

  • Alane Adams • Author, Legends of Orkney, Legnds of Olympus, The Witches of Orkney
  • Tom Cook • Animator/director/artist, Scooby Doo, Smurfs, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra Princess of Power, Ghostbusters, Disney’s Mighty Ducks
  • Steve Leialoha • Comic Book Artist, Fables, Petrefax, Warlock, Howard the Duck, Spider-Woman
  • Trina Robbins • Cartoonist/comics herstorian, The Legend of Wonder Woman, A Century of Women Cartoonists, Pretty In Ink
  • Gene Luen Yang • Writer/author, American Born Chinese, Boxers & Saints, Marvel’s Shang-Chi

Comic-Con International has unveiled the fifth wave of Special Guests for WonderCon Anaheim, and it includes some heavy hitters. From the Toucan Blog, the new round includes:

  • Phil Jimenez • Writer/artist, Tempest, The Invisibles, JLA/Titans, New X-Men, Wonder Woman, Infinite Crisis
  • Tom King • Writer, Batman/Catwoman, Grayson, Heroes in Crisis, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
  • Joe Quinones • Artist/illustrator, Dial H for Hero, Howard the Duck, America, Spider-Man
  • Marv Wolfman • Writer, Blade, Black Cat, New Teen Titans

CCI announced four new Special Guests for WonderCon Anaheim this week. From the Toucan Blog, their Fourth Wave of Special Guests includes:

  • Adam Hughes • Illustrator, Black Widow, Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Fairest, Hellboy: Krampusnacht and Hellboy: Seven Wives Club
  • Jae Lee • Comic Book Artist, Marvel’s The Inhumans, Stephen King’s Dark Tower, Before Watchmen: Ozymandias, and Batman/Superman
  • Gary Phillips • Author/editor, Kolchak, the Night Stalker, pulp favorite The Spider, Anthony-winningThe Obama Inheritance: Fifteen Stories of Conspiracy Noir
  • Evan “Doc” Shaner • DC Comics cartoonist, Future Quest, The Terrifics, Man of Steel, Supergirl, Doom Patrol, and Strange Adventures

  • Mingjue Helen Chen • Illustrator, DC Comics, Marvel, Disney Publishing, BOOM!; Contributor, Jungle Book, Gotham Academy, and Silk
  • Mitch Gerads • Artist, Mister Miracle, Batman, Strange Adventures, and The Sheriff of Babylon
  • Tom Ruegger • Emmy winning creator/producer/writer/showrunner of many beloved animated TV series, including Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brian, Tiny Toon Adventures, Road Rover, and Histeria!
  • Paul Rugg • Co-developer and the voice of Freakazoid in Steven Spielberg Presents: Freakazoid

It looks like CCI is referring to their previously announced “sneak peek” of WonderCon Special Guests as their First Wave. From the Toucan Blog, their Second Wave of Special Guests includes:

  • Mark Evanier • Author, Kirby, King of Comics, historian
  • Daniel Warren Johnson • Comic book writer, artist, and illustrator with clients including Image, DC, Marvel, Wizards of the Coast
  • Annalee Newitz • Journalist, editor, and author of fiction and nonfiction, recipient of a Knight Science Journalism Fellowship from MIT, and contributor for Popular Science, The New Yorker, and the Washington Post.
  • James Rollins • New York Times bestselling author of the Sigma Force series: Sandstorm, Map of Bones, Black Order, The Judas Strain, The Last Oracle, The Doomsday Key, The Devil Colony, Bloodline, and more.
