WonderPost 2023: Brandi York, Hello Barkada, Patrick Ballesteros, 7 Bucks A Pop

Happy Tuesday, friends! If my calendar is correct, we only have to suffer through two more Mondays until WonderCon 2023. That’s as good a reason as any to celebrate so let’s get this party started! We’ve lined up a whole bevy of great news for you while we wait for the exhibitor list and panel schedule to drop. Mixed in with some unofficial panel news is a treading water Mando, some art nouveau pirates and a trio of Peter Parkers.

Let’s take a look at the news you might have missed:

  • Let’s start off with our friend Patrick Ballesteros, who is imaging Mando taking a dip in this WonderCon work in progress.

  • The force is always strong with cosplayer and blogger Isabella, who confirmed on Instagram that they will be attending WonderCon with Star Wars fan-art sticker and pin creator Punch It Chewie Press.

  • Michele Fried of Handcrafted Geekdom took to Instagram to show off a trio of Marvel inspired minimalist prints that she will have for sale at WonderCon, including Captain Marvel, Black Widow and Captain America.
  • And while we’re at it, lay your eye(s) on this dragon inspired print Michele will also have at the convention.

  • Sounds like WonderCon will be a working vacation for artist Chris Thorne, who will be chained to his table sketching and drawing for attendees all weekend. Go see him at #C-13.

  • Just a few more days until we get the full WonderCon panel schedule but until then, screenwriter and author Tim Chizmar is giving advance notice of not one, but TWO panels he’ll be a part of.

  • Leeanne Krecic doesn’t have a set schedule yet, but promises free prints at any signings. Stay tuned for all the details! Krecic is the creator of Let’s Play, a Ringo and Eisner nominated webtoon.

  • We have mentioned Olivia of Ollybits a few times already but could not resist sharing this breathtaking display of pixel art stickers and washi tape from a recent event.  We are holding out hope that her WonderCon selection is equally adorable.

  • Slipping this little bit of bad news right here in the middle so hopefully you forget the sting by the end of the post… Unfortunately creators of limited edition detailed enamel pins, FiGPiN, will *not* be vending at WonderCon. We fully expect to see them at SDCC later this summer and look forward to that confirmation.

  • We have some more info regarding artist Mike Mayhew’s appearance at the KRS Comics booth, #801. You’ll be able to purchase very special remarqued signatures from Mayhew. We are very partial to the “Thwip” option! 🕸
  • Here’s some more early panel news for you, this time from Hello Barkada, who focus on amplifying the voices of historically marginalized communities. They will be presenting panels about horror theme classification, navigating creative industries and women of color creators. Panelists will include, among others:
    • Sandra Equihua (illustrator, voice actress)
    • Amanda Meadows (Eisner nominated editor)
    • Lea Anderson (horror scholar)
    • Malissa White (comic book writer and editor, pop culture reviewer)
    • Viktor Kerney (creator of the queer webcomic StrangeLore)
    • John Jennings (Hugo Award-winning and Eisner Award-winning graphic novelist)
    • Elizabeth Ito (Emmy Award-winning animation veteran)

  • This very mysterious and intriguing tweet is brought to you by writer David M. Barnett. Barnett’s work includes comics for Shelly Bond’s IDW imprint Black Crown as well as DC’s Sandman Universe. His next book, There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, is due this summer. What could Barnett be hinting at? We’ll have to wait to find out.

  • If you missed last summer’s “Three Peters” Spider-Man inspired lenticular print by artist EL.ILUSIONISTA, we have some good new for you, it’s not too late. Pre-orders for pick up at WonderCon are now available.

  • Man for sale! Man for sale! You can chart a course for Brandi York’s booth to pick up her Our Flag Means Death booty — er, prints. Brandi reserves her mini prints for in-person events only but (lucky for us) goes on to confirm that she will be attending WonderCon later this month. Brandi offers larger prints on her website, along with all her other beautiful art.

And finally today, we have a smidgen of new info from 7 Bucks a Pop, who will be offering in-booth signings and their exclusive signature series Pops. Where to find that booth? That is our smidgen of new info….find them at booth #281.
