Under The Tents 2023: Cartoon Voices, Patrick Ballesteros, Toddland, BB-CRE.8, Sweet Things

San Diego Comic-Con news is a marathon, not a sprint — it can seem slow at first, but it begins to pick up pace before too long. And we are definitely nearing the time when it’s companies are starting to move past a brisk walk and into a run, as we’ve got panel announcements, updates on artists like Patrick Ballesteros and Val Hochberg, teases about specialty frozen yogurt and Dole Whip flavors, and more.

Let’s check out the news you might have missed:

  • We’ve got some tasty news for you to kick things off today: Fan favorite Sweet Things Frozen Yogurt, located at the base of the Hilton Bayfront, will have new flavors for San Diego Comic-Con this year. Be sure to follow them (or us) for more details. We can practically already taste the Dole Whip.

  • Lennonchild has more 8-bit drops planned for San Diego Comic-Con this year — and you might have to dodge angry plants and collect some gold coins to catch this Super Mario Bros themed piece.

  • It’s not easy being green — but this JYK All Day sneak peek that’s all about the Green Ranger sure is easy on the eyes. We’ll have to wait for the full reveal, but you can add Booth #CC-08 in Artists Alley to our list of places to stop.

  • Moderator extraordinaire Mark Evanier is returning to San Diego Comic-Con with his fan favorite panel “Cartoon Voices”. Stop by Room 6BCF on Saturday, July 22 at 1pm for a bunch of awesome, funny people (like Elle Newlands) talking cartoons, animation, video games, and doing improvised voices. It’s sure to be a great time.

  • These adorable mini originals from Nan Hockin are sure to put a smile on your face. To claim one as your own, you’ll need stop by Booth #F-11 to see her daily selection, which includes everyone from Rainbow Brite to Moon Knight.

  • Are you looking to get into the world of comic book publishing? Legal advertising firm Troutman Pepper will be hosting a panel this year, “How to Create Your Comic Book Company – Legal and Business Considerations”.

  • Mark your calendars! Val Hochberg will be opening her commissions “around June 13”. There will be limited spots, and you’d better plan to hurry, or we’ll be claiming them all for ourselves (just kidding. sort of).

  • Stay classy, San Diego. BB-CRE.8 teased a sneak preview of their San Diego Comic-Con exclusive pin this year, and we’d recognize that mustache anywhere.

  • We’ve heard of Taco Tuesday’s. But a Tacoboy tour? Taco Boy Designs is hitting the road, and will be at San Diego Comic-Con among other places this summer.
