Under the Tents 2024: Camilla d’Erico, Spoke Art, Headlocked Comics, Scott Snyder, Serena Valentino, Top Cow

It’s been quite a rollercoaster of emotions this week as far as SDCC news goes. Some of us were lucky and heard back from one of the offsites or activations they were waiting for. The rest of us will be the GIF of sad David Tennant standing in the rain as we watch you lucky bastards get to have all the fun. That’s OK; we’ll have more fun without you. So there. Oh, and here’s some Comic-Con news for you, too. No, I’m not bitter that I’m 0-for-everything in Comic-Con lotteries, why do you ask?

Here’s a look at what you might have missed:

  • In my youth, there were those who thought I was pretty fly (for a white guy). You and your littles can swing by Lolligag’s Booth #4532 in the Exhibit Hall at SDCC this year to give them a chance to express how fly they are with their “I’m So Fly” t-shirt. Of course, you can’t leave without the matching Lolligag purse from Thermos. After all, every fly girl knows how to accessorize.

  • Artist Matt Hebb revealed the last of his Simpsons Playbills he’ll have with him at Small Press Table #F-05 during Comic-Con this year, Springfield, Springfield. Best. Play. Everrrrr.

  • Canadian surrealist Camilla d’Errico revealed her SDCC 2024 exclusives and specials she’s bringing to Exhibit Hall Booth #4723 for her 26th(!) Comic-Con this year.

  • Let’s be honest, would this be a legitimate edition of Under the Tents without crochet critters? Of course not, so Heather from Painted World Fiber Arts tweeted one of the two adorable Yoshi critters she’ll be placing around the convention center during Comic-Con this year.

  • When he was a lad, he ate four dozen eggs every morning to help him get large. You may have laughed at Disney’s Beauty and the Beast‘s bad guy Gaston, but author Serena Valentino wants to put a stop to that, so she’s bringing early release copies of her latest work, Kill the Beast, to Disney Publishing’s Booth #2021. You’ll also catch her signing at the booth Friday and Saturday, so swing by and say hi. And just wait til you see just how good he is at exfactorating.

  • One of the first big games released for the Atari 2600 game console was Raiders of the Lost Ark. Those of us old enough to have played this game remember the countless hours trying to figure out, “Does this game ever actually end?” Artist Spencer Brinkerhoff’s 13″x19″ Indiana Jones print he’s bringing to Booth #5560 at SDCC this year evokes memories of that endless game and my mother yelling at me to please turn the *bleep* thing off already.

  • Illustrator and character designer Sara Kipin revealed her Elden Ring-themed sticker pack for SDCC 2024, “Shadow of the Erdtree.” Look for it and her at Gallery Nucleus’s Booth #2015 on the Exhibit Hall floor.

  • Watercolor artist Natalia, also known as Parakid, revealed her latest Pikmin print she’ll have with her at Small Press Table #O-14 during Comic-Con this year.

  • Publishers Top Cow are extremely excited to reveal their latest title, Port of Earth, will be available at Booth #2629 for SDCC this year. With cover art by Andrea Mutti and written by Zack Kaplan, it’s surely something you’ll want to display prominently on your shelf at home.

  • Lucha libre comics publisher Masked Republic will have 150 copies of the ashcan release for Vampiro: Rockabilly Apocalypse, set for wide release this October, at Booth #1901 during Comic-Con this year, along with signings by the legend Vampiro himself as well as writer Michael Kingston and cover artist Rafael Gallur.

  • Mothman. If you see him, well, it’s about to get real. Multi-talented artist Kory Bing doesn’t want anything bad to happen to you, but she does want you to come by Booth #1229 at SDCC for these spooky Mothman pins she’s bringing to SDCC this year.

  • If that’s not spooky enough for you (or is it too spooky?), Bing will also have Fresno Nightcrawler pins with her at Booth #1229 as well. Have you checked your security cameras for weird shadows today?

  • You get a great two-for-one deal over at #D-05 in Small Press. Not only will you find Midnight Dogs with their awesome pins, but you’ll also find Sam Grinberg with his Scumburbia creations, including tees, figures, and more. You can pick up a Spike Action Figure for $30, a Mega Sized Mall Issue for $15, a bundle of the two for $40, or a Scumburbia t-shirt for $25.

  • Can you feel the Kenergy? If this Spoke Art tease by Tracie Ching gives you feelings that you can’t explain, drivin’ you insane, then head to Booth #4900 before you live and die a life of blonde fragility.

  • They’ve been showing off other teases, including Isabella Addison’s “The Neighbor Tour”; a Matt Taylor’s Kiki’s Delivery Service; and Dakota Randall’s piece. Stop by Booth #4900 to see the full screen prints in person.
  • Artist Josey Tsao returns to the convention with some adorable merch, including mystery stickers for $2, the last of her “Starlight” prints, and exclusive print bundles. Head to Artist Alley #AA-24 to check it all out.

  • The legendary Scott Snyder has a packed schedule at the convention, with signings and panels across several booths, including DSTLRY, Comic Sketch Art Booth, and DC. Except Arcbound. I’ll get over that, at some point, but that day is not today.

  • Hero Complex Galaxy teased a new piece from Nicholey Culkin of everyone’s favorite Regular Human Bartender, Jackie Daytona. You’ll find Hero Complex at Booth #4501 with the full reveal.

  • There’s an awful lot going on in the world of wrestling at San Diego Comic-Con (luckily Robert on our team has put together a handy guide), and the announcements haven’t stopped yet. Headlocked Comics revealed that they’ve added Danhausen AD for an appearance at their booth from Thursday 3:30pm-5pm and Friday 12pm-2pm, and AEW’s Darby Allin on Friday 2:30pm-4pm.

  • Halloween is always in season in the world of Rhode Montijo, and he’s got another fun piece for attendees. You can pick up his “Specter Inspector” 11″x17″ print, a Spook Show style Risograph. Step into his fantasmical world at Booth #1329 and to check out the all-cardboard booth space (seriously, don’t miss it).

  • Artist Matt Hebb is taking a break from the Simpsons x Broadway mash-ups to bring you the third of his connecting Marvel posters, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of Daredevil and the 50th anniversary of Punisher. All three prints, including the Spider-Man and Fantastic-Four posters, will be on hand at #F-05 in Small Press.

  • We’re huge fans of Now or Never Comics in the Gaslamp, and they’re getting into the Comic-Con spirit with signings all week long. On Friday from 1pm-3pm, you’ll find writer Arthur N. Ebuen (@california, Inc.) and editor Justin Giampaoli celebrating the release of @alifornia, Inc. #3 with a launch and signing. Plus there will be variant covers, pins, and patches.
