Under the Tents 2025: Felix Comic Art, Patrick Ballesteros, Flesh & Blood, Nan Hockin

I gotta be honest with you folks, I’m suffering from a huge WrestleMania weekend hangover. No, I wasn’t even there in Vegas to enjoy the festivities (I lived vicariously through fellow UBlogger Johnny Du), but I visually and audibly consumed so much wrestling content that I can’t tell the “Let’s Go Cena” chants from the “Cena Sucks” chants.

Luckily, I have a big stack of San Diego Comic-Con news that will help me transition from one obsessive hobby to the next, faster than Paul Heyman can betray his wrestlers. Highlights include three stellar prints from Felix Comic Art (YEET!), some exclusive Flesh & Blood decks (YEET!), enamel pins (YEET!), and even a Patrick Ballesteros tease (DOUBLE YEET!). Plus, much, much more.

Now, like CM Punk says, “It’s Clobberin’ Time!”, so let’s go clobber that news:

  • Flesh and Blood, the New Zealand based trading card game company recently announced Armory Decks: Legends, two brand new ready-t0-play decks, Viserai and Prism, which will be convention-only exclusives. Luckily enough, San Diego Comic-Con is one of the two listed conventions that Flesh and Blood will be attending.

  • Sometimes bigger IS better and our friends at Symbiote Studios are dropping BIG hints that their popular My Little Pony line of plush may soon have a new member, Discord, landing this summer at the nation’s #1 vacation destination, San Diego. We’d be willing to bet our feedbag that means SDCC!

  • In addition to representing one of the most stellar line-ups of artists in the industry, Felix Comic Art also does their own convention exclusives. This year, they will have original art replica prints from some of the most popular variant covers by Sanford Greene, Daniel Warren Johnson, and Nick Dragotta. These prints will be available at San Diego Comic-Con in both signed and remarqued editions.

  • But wait! There’s more! Felix Comic Art has also created a digest-sized catalog of Sanford Greene’s DOOM original art. This gem will be available free with purchase of the print at San Diego Comic-Con.

  • Sometimes the wait for reveals can be excruciating. Artist Patrick Ballesteros understands this and is kind enough to pepper us with sneak peeks of his upcoming work. This San Diego Comic-Con exclusive will be one of his most exciting yet, featuring over 200 characters, enjoying a very familiar full-color scene and measuring 12″ x 18.” You can bet your sweet buns we’ll have the exclusive reveal of this when Patrick is finished.

  • We love a good enamel pin, and that’s doubly true of a good statement enamel pin, like these from Zoralita Mary Bellamy. She will have these available for San Diego Comic-Con. We appreciate the positive sentiment of both of these sweet pins.

  • Comic artist and writer Megan Huang, whose work has been published by DC, IDW, Titan, and Dark Horse, recently announced on Twitter that she will be attending San Diego Comic-Con. This will include tabling at the event, taking commissions, and signing books. Time to gather up all those variant covers in your collection to get them signed!

So, we are uncertain what is going to become of our enamels pins going forward. We are going to try to place one more big order next week including exclusive SDCC pins, but with the #tariff situation, I’m concerned about prices going forward.

Need to clear out some stock and also raise some money to re-stock popular pins (our protect trans-kids pin is sold out AGAIN 🩷🩵)I’m brainstorming ideas this week for SDCC, what movies/shows/books would you want to see pins from?

  • Someone else who went to social media to crowdsource some ideas is our friends at Monkey Minion. If you have a favorite Southern California bird be sure to let them know, it could help them create an SDCC exclusive.

Working on a possible idea for SDCC. SoCal folks! What is your favorite Southern California Bird? #sdcc

  • You know how we all just wait and wait and wait to see the official panel schedule for SDCC? Well, imagine if you’re a panel creator, waiting to hear back from CCI on if your  proposal has been accepted? Can you even imagine that stress? Prolific writer and panelist Jendia Gammon (Doomflower, Vale of Seven Dragons) is no stranger to the waiting game and we’ll keep our fingers crossed they they get the official “thumbs up” soon.

  • Inquiring minds want to know! Writer and creator of the long-running all ages Amulet series, Kazu Kibuishi, recently responded on Twitter that they will soon have San Diego Comic-Con plans to share. Ahhh…that dreaded word! “Soon!”

  • Surfs up for this little sweetie, the first of a dozen new stickers that artist Nan Hockin is planning on bringing to San Diego Comic-Con. We’ll be hanging ten all the way over to her booth to get these cuties!

  • Senior Designer Director handling Star Wars and Marvel licenses at Hasbro, Steve Evans, had a busy weekend at Star Wars Celebration in Japan but took a moment to post a round-up of reveals on Instagram, including a little side note that their next stop is San Diego Comic-Con. We always look forward to whatever Hasbro brings and will keep updating our dedicated post as it’s announced.

  • Illustrator Alix Harris of Cyanali Art was promoting a new print they had at C2E2 recently but conveniently dropped that they will also be at San Diego Comic-Con. We love to hear the early confirmations from the artists we enjoy!

  • Skullgirls creator Alex Ahad had to let a fan down gently on Twitter, but in doing so also revealed that they will be setting up at San Diego Comic-Con.

  • The previously announced Bob’s Burgers themed rave, “Burger Bass” has revealed some of the talent that will be performing at the event on Thursday, July 24 in San Diego. Entertainment will include Malcom Brown, Techno Tupac and more. Ticket information is still TBA.

  • One of the largest growing sectors of SDCC is in the area of Tabletop Gaming, in part due to the efforts of Ross Thompson. Thompson will once again be hosting the TTG Gathering for industry professionals during Comic-Con and revealed that the RPG Play Theater will once again be held.

As a reminder, San Diego Comic-Con panel submissions are due on April 28th. It is great to see the continued growth of tabletop programming and events. I'll be hosting the Tabletop Industry Gathering on Thursday night of SDCC, plus the RPG Play Theater will be in full-swing again this year.
