With May winding down and June right around the corner, San Diego Comic-Con 2025 is getting closer than we think. The slow trickle of SDCC news is becoming a steady stream of announcements. Since you’re reading Under the Tents, you obviously want to know what those are, so let’s get down to business.
Here’s a look at what you might have missed:
- Every year, San Diego Comic-Con creator and artist Val Hochberg brings some of the most adorable work to the convention. She recently announced on Twitter she’ll be opening her SDCC commissions sometime next week, so keep an eye on our Commissions post to see how you can order some personalized art from her. Also, if you recognize this character, your joints probably tell you when it’s going to rain.
Phoenix Fan Fusion is so close and I’m not ready!
If you ordered a PHXFF commission, good news! Your arts has been arted! 💖🤗💖
And if you’re interested in a commission for SDCC, I’ll be making an announcement about those next week with more details! ✨ pic.twitter.com/zEJaronzbd— Val Hochberg 💖 🔜 PHXFF 875 (@kickgirl) May 27, 2025
- Oh, I’m sorry, was that not adorable enough for you? Maybe Hochberg’s Robin Hood and Maid Marian stickers from the classic Disney movie we all grew up with is more your style.
More new arts coming at you today! Excited to show off some of my new stickers! ✨
I’ll have these for sale at PHXFF and SDCC! So excited! I hope you like them!

- Comic writer Kat Calamia and artist Phil Falco have already booked a few panels for Comic-Con this year, but if you think they’d be a good fit for yours, they’d love to hear from you.
Phil and I are already doing a few panels at San Diego Comic Con, but we are open to adding a few more. So if you need a POV on crowdfunding, queer comics, and/or operating a successful publishing company then we are your people! pic.twitter.com/hecOpTDLbJ

- Author/illustrator Amin Amat was very excited to announce that he’ll be a panelist at SDCC this year. Look for him on the “Immigrants Still Changing the Face of Pop Culture” panel.
- Local San Diego author Jendia Gammon will also be paneling at San Diego Comic-Con this year at the “Star Wars: Andor: From Resistance to Rebellion” panel.
- If you’ve enjoyed the “Wonder Women- Female Comic CEOs” panel at SDCC in the past, we have good news for you; they’re doing it again at Comic-Con this year.
- When I read this post, I got the image of an arch-villain wringing their hands together and laughing sinisterly. Take from that what you will when you see that 2000 AD’s Steve Morris will have “A LOT” of panels at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Mwahaha.
I got a LOT of panels approved for SDCC this year

- Oh, Noe! Erudite comic authority Matthew Noe, that is, who seems to be unexpectedly heading across the US to SDCC this year (if he gets a hotel, of course).
Looks like I'm heading to SDCC this year after all 👀

- Another local San Diego artist gearing up for Comic-Con this year is Gabriel Stockton, who’s busy getting his sketch cards ready for the con.
- Water is wet. The sky is blue. San Diego Comic-Con legend Mark Evanier will be on a lot of panels at SDCC this year.
- Explore the mystery of doppelgängers as well as a history of Bizarro with Cal State Fullerton Professor Adam Golub as he joins the Comics Art Conference as a panelist.
Excited to announce that I’ll be talking about doppelgängers and the history of Bizarro at Comic-Con this summer, as part of the Comics Arts Conference. San Diego, here we come…

- You can find writer/illustrator Rebecca Hicks on the Exhibit Hall floor at SDCC this year at Booth #5535, according to her summer schedule.
Updated appearance calendar time! I'm so glad I'll get to see my friends at Rose City Comic Con this Fall. What events would you like to see me at? I'd love recommendations on what cons might like my real human arty stuffs.
