May is here, and with it, the countdown to Comic-Con kicks into high gear — we’re officially just two months out. Feeling ready? Don’t worry if the answer is no; honestly, who ever really is? The best way to tackle the massive undertaking that is Comic-Con is by staying up to date on all the important news And the good news? We’re here to help you stay ahead of the game.
Here’s what you can expect over the next month:
Parking
With hotels (hopefully) figured out, it’s time to turn to the next big piece of the Comic-Con planning puzzle: Parking. Typically seen as the final major sale before the convention, parking is handled through Ace Parking, typically via a lottery system (and we’re assuming it will be the same this year). While there’s no official date yet for when it will open, but based on last year’s timeline (May 8 – June 9), we expect an announcement any day now.
Exclusive Announcements
May often marks what we unofficially call the start of Comic-Con news season. It’s a slow snowball that gains speed throughout the summer until it turns into a full-on avalanche by July. While things may feel relatively manageable now (don’t forget to get your Yesterdays tee pre-orders in!), May typically brings the first wave of exclusive reveals and announcements. Last year, companies like TokyoPop and Enso Rings kicked things off.
Offsite Announcements
We’ve already had several offsites already announced, including Thrilljoy’s Block Party, the FunMaker “Dreams” party, early details on the Her Universe Fashion Show, and more. But expect plenty more (though the majority come in June and July)
You can always find a list of offsites on our event calendar.
New SDConCast Season
Yes, the new season of the SDConCast will be back this month, starting Tuesday, May 6! We’ll be doing live shows on Tuesday’s again this year, and we’ve already got an exciting schedule of upcoming guests to talk movies, TV, comics, and behind-the-scenes making of Comic-Con (including several guests we have wanted for years). In addition, each week we’ll continue to keep you up to date on all the latest news, to help ensure you’re as prepared as possible for July.
