In news that should shock absolutely no one, HBO’s House of the Dragon will not be charging into San Diego Comic-Con this year.
While last year saw an early advanced screening of the penultimate episode of season two, the timing just didn’t work for season three to appear at the convention for 2025, as they’re in the middle of filming. Showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed the news on a recent episode of his The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of podcast (with David Mandel), explaining, “Nothing’s going on officially because we’re in the middle of shooting, and it would be too disruptive to promote, and I just can’t get away this year. July is just the teeth of the schedule. It’s sadly the first one that I will have missed since 2008, my first one, right after I moved to LA.”
But don’t fear — if Condel gets his way, they’ll be back at the con for 2026 in a big year. “I will make a triumphant return next year and it will be one for the ages… or something,” he joked.
It will, of course, all boil down to the release timing for season three, but Condel seemed hopeful about the third season being at San Diego Comic-Con in 2026.
“I thought it was really great, we screened that episode last summer there, and I thought that really cool event went really well,” he said. “So I’m hoping we can do something like that, something surprising for the fans to just sock the Comic-Con audience right in the middle of it. So no promises, but stay tuned. I will be pushing for that, because I love going down there and doing that stuff.”
