Question Of The Week #6: What Is Your Favorite Thing You’ve Bought At SDCC?

This year, in an effort to feature more attendees, rather than featuring just one per week — we’re featuring lots of you! We’ll have a new question each week, so be sure to keep an eye on our social media channels for each week’s question. Without further ado let’s get into this weeks question:

Two of my favorite purchases so far are my WandaVision pin from 2022 Comic-Con. I have my pin on my lanyard for work. My other favorite purchases is usually the Misfits shirts that Yesterdays tend to sell. When you buy the Comic-Con exclusive shirt, it comes with a cool collectible card, that I will usually give to my friend for his birthday.

The favorite thing I bought from SDCC has to be the Marvel shirt that I bought from their booth back in 2018. I felt extremely lucky to get it. I just happened to be at the Marvel booth right when one of the workers was handing out tickets with times to get in line and buy stuff from their merch booth (talk about being at the right place at the right time).
I would like to give an honorable mention to my two other favorite items. The Butts On Things Activity Book from Brian Cook, and my D&D oven mitt from Nerdy Novelty Design.

Sara Mussen

Print by Monkey Minion Press. Purchased first thing on Preview Night after seeing it featured on UBlog and knowing I had to have it!

My favorite purchase was from the first Comic-Con after the pandemic. It is the Mondo exclusive of the red variant Black Widow poster by Tula Lotay. I was lucky enough to win the lottery to get in line for an early lineup to get the poster. I found out later that they had 5 remark editions by Tula and got the idea I should try to get a remark from the artist herself. On Sunday, I was able to get the poster remarked. Then I thought I could get the poster signed by Andy Park and Ryan Meinerding from Marvel Studios right after the remark. They were both kind enough to sign the poster for free, and they both thought it looked awesome!
Goes to show how even Sunday SDCC can be awesome if you do a little digging.

My favorite thing bought at SDCC was the Hasbro G.I. Joe Classified Series Cobra Commander “I Was Once a Man” figure. It has lenticular artwork on the box showing Cobra Commander’s transformation from man to cobra. I got it signed by the awesome comic book cover artist, John Giang. John’s a great guy, and this Cobra is one of my favorite action figures. It’s still in the box! (It might be time for an unboxing.) Yo Joe!

Ariel Estandarte

Orland Park, Illinois
One of my favorite things that I have bought at SDCC was back in 2010. I bought the Hot Wheels Wonder Woman Invisible Jet. It was my second year going to SDCC. I didn’t realize that the Hot Wheels mentioned was an April Fools Day joke by Mattel and the packaging was empty thus making the jet “invisible”. It took me a few minutes to realize that I didn’t get a packaging error .

My most favorite thing that I’ve ever purchased has got to be the Han Solo Gold Sabacc Dice from 2018. I heard they were gonna be on sale that year and I was determined to get them. The first thing I did once I got home was open up the package and PROUDLY display them in my car. They have moved through 3 cars over the last 8 years and I have no desire to retire them.

The first is my favorite personal purchase, my hat from Kreepsville666. I wear it all the time and loved it so much that I’ve made multiple purchases from them now. My second was the Poppy Playtime lenticular Lunchbox bundle exclusive we were able to get for our nephew, and he absolutely loved it!!

Matt Aranda

 Los Angeles, CA

If I had to choose my favorite Comic-Con item I’ve ever bought, I would have to say it goes back to 2019. Funko had started doing the lotto system and I had struck out so it was up to me to try and find what I was looking for on my own. I spent five days walking up and down the convention center floor multiple times to find my “must have” item until I came across a booth that had what I was looking for; the Big Bang Theory Funko set of the cast dressed as DC Characters. This nice old lady was selling them and I told her I had to have them. She was more than willing to part with them and I told her that she made my con because I was desperately trying to find them. I had a good Comic-Con but being able to get them on the last day made my convention experience that much better.

My favorite (and most expensive) purchase at SDCC was the two Alex Ross prints, Cups and Cap.

Darren/Veronica/CaLi

Fresno California

Fav Item: Iron Man Promo (Dog Toy) from Petco.

We couldn’t let the readers have all the fun, so some of the team here at the Unofficial Blog wanted to get in on the action as well. Let’s see who some of their favorites are.

Look, my actual answer is “a hoodie for something I’ve never even heard of that I way overpaid for” solely because it was freezing in Ballroom 20 and I was miserable, so I ran down finally to grab something and it was literally the only hoodie I could quickly find. But let’s go with these amazing Comic-Con pieces of artwork by Victoria Ying and Michael Yamada. I change my artwork on my walls relatively often, but these two have been a mainstay since I first purchased them (don’t mock my terrible framing job here).

Keisha Dupree

One of my favorite things I’ve ever bought would have to be one of the Killer Klowns From Outer Space clowns along with one of their human cotton candy cocoons.

Back in the days of pre-Funko Mondo, getting their SDCC prints was an all-day affair. As soon as you were done waiting to buy one, it was time for another drop. I got a lot of great prints from them over the years but the 2014 Pan’s Labyrinth print signed by both the artist Jock and the writer/director Guillermo del Toro still rates as one of my greatest pick-ups.

Here’s a pic from Mondo’s wrap-up that includes my husband (in red) buying the print.
