Under the Tents 2025: JYK All Day, Funko, Scott Snyder, Pudgy Penguins

It’s hard to be composed when you realize there is only ONE MONTH left until San Diego Comic-Con Preview Night. That’s one month to pack your bags, break in your shoes, and gather up all the comics you want to get signed. It’s a month of announcements and teases and more exclusives than you will think are possible. It’s a month to book a commission. It’s a month of Under the Tents opening paragraphs where I struggle to get your attention when I really know you just want to skip down to all the fun stuff. And I don’t blame you one bit.

Let’s get to it, time’s a wastin’ :

  • Wherever Pudgy Penguins happiness and good vibes are bound to follow. And sweetness. Literal sweetness, as they have announced on Twitter that The Pudgy Penguins Pez Dispenser will make a limited debut at Comic-Con.

  • If you’ve been paying even the smallest bit of attention to recent comic books, you likely know that Scott Snyder’s Absolute Batman is one of the most popular titles going right now. Snyder has been one of the most popular writers for a while now and it sure doesn’t seem like he wants to give up that crown just yet. What’s next for him? Maybe we’ll find out at San Diego Comic-Con, because, yep, Snyder will be there.

  • JL Grillo will have a new zine available at Comic-Con. His original fox/cat/rabbit character Finn has some advice for creatives out there that you’re gonna wanna read.

Making a fresh zine for SDCC! See you in small press @biolumen.bsky.social ✨

  • Artist Jin Young Kim, JYK All Day, is hitting us square in the face with several teases of stickers he’s going to have at San Diego Comic-Con He’ll also be offering copies of  “Till All Are One,” his 11″ x 17″ print that will run $25.

  • Are you feeling just a smidgen ANXIOUS about all this Comic-Con news? I wish I could say it gets better but something tells me it might get worse first. Either way, even exhibitors are feeling the heat, as artist Naoko Mullally very appropriately points out. She’ll have loads of new prints, stickers, and more at Booth #5550.

  • Just down the aisle from Naoko, at #5553, you can find Trinity Comics, who rep some of the finest artist in the business right now, including Adi Granov, Scott Williams, E.M Gist, Zoe Lacchei, and Igor Lomov. They will be offering a brand new shirt for their fans.

  • We are so thrilled that independent publisher Drawn & Quarterly is returning to San Diego Comic-Con, and they are already teasing us with an excellent selection of creator signings and exclusives over on Threads.

  • Also over on Threads, Black Heroes Matter announced that their comic, Jaycen Wise and the Tablets of Hush will be debuting at San Diego Comic-Con. The book is already being worked on for live-action television by producer Prentice Penny (Insecure).

  • Over on Twitter, our friends Sweet Things are making mouths water with this tease regarding their upcoming Comic-Con themed treats. They have also announced some very generous extended hours, perfect for those folks in the overnight lines who need an early morning pick-me-up!

  • Hey! That’s no Coppertone baby! Comic book creator Andrew Pepoy doesn’t have much time between events this summer. He’s just wrapped up a weekend at Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC, and cheekily announced his next show is San Diego where he’ll be in Small Press at #M-13.

And so we leave *behind* another HeroesCon! Always a great time! One of the best gatherings of comics fans and pros around! Great seeing so many friends on both sides of the table. See you next at San Diego Comic-Con at Small Press table M-13! #slaveleia #r2d2 #starwars #heroescon #comics

  • Looks like author Julia Vee (Ebony Gate, Seattle Slayers) is all BOOKED up for the summer. Get it?!? BOOKED! Because she writes… oh nevermind! The important part is that Vee will be swinging by SDCC to celebrate the release of Pearl City the third book in her series The Phoenix Hoard.

  • In a joint post on Instagram, collectible luminaries Super 7 and the official Godzilla Toho account announced, or rather, WARNED us that kaiju have been spotted in San Diego and shelter should be taken at Godzilla Station. What is Godzilla Station and how do we get there? Hopefully we’ll know before Godzilla rises out of San Diego Bay to destroy the Convention Center. *Fingers crossed* Let’s say Godzilla just one more time, for luck!

  • We love a good, fun homage comic cover and artist Sean Forney has a doozy for us today. This variant for Terry Sala and Marat Mychaels’ Deadpool/Winnie the Pooh mash up book, Do You Pooh is an homage to Jim Lee’s Fantastic Four cover. It’ll be available in multiple variants at Forney’s booth, #EE-03 in Artist Alley, or you can pre-order it (and his other SDCC offerings) online.

  • Artist David Mack is a mainstay at San Diego Comic-Con and will once again be in Artist Alley at #HH-07. In addition to all of his incredible original art and high-quality giclée prints, Mack will also have an SDCC exclusive cover for his feline-themed book, Mews.

  • Like a one-man art machine, James Silvani just keep pumping out the hits. All of the original art he’s been showing off will be available in Artist Alley at #II-06. He’s got a month to go, how much more can he make? We think a lot more.

  • Artist and woodworker Alex Sketch” Navarro will have several of his hand painted lanterns at Comic-Con. Check out his video on Threads to see them all.

  • By our calculations, Funko isn’t really running behind on their San Diego Comic-Con exclusives announcements (though maybe there have been fewer leaks?) but they know that fans are getting anxious and promise that they’ll be coming soon.

  • If you like your comics on the gory side, and you appreciate the unique event that is Comic-Con and Hall H, then let us direct your attention to Image Comic forthcoming anthology book, Dread the Hall H, featuring work from Chris Anderson (Heavy Metal), Nelson Dániel (Dying is Easy), Jimmy Kucaj (Come Find Me), Piotr Kowalski (Creepshow) and more. Check out a sneak peek over at the Daily Dead and be sure to pick up a copy on release day, July 23.

  • And lastly this afternoon, there are always deals to be had on the exhibit hall floor and we can tell you exactly where to find them: at Sokaz Deals Booth #4437. From tees, to hats to bags, they have a great selection and, of course, will have excellent deals.
