Under the Tents 2025: McFarlane Toys, Magic: The Gathering + Avatar, James Silvani, Ming Chen

Well, it’s officially summer, which means we can finally say: San Diego Comic-Con 2025 is this SEASON! Okay, that doesn’t really have the same oomph to it as “SDCC 2025 is less than five weeks away,” huh? But both statements are true!

Anyway, let’s take a look at the news you may have missed (and if you didn’t miss any of these, please consider joining our team):

  • McFarlane Toys confirmed that pre-orders for its upcoming Superman by Clayton Henry resin statue will launch during SDCC (with a special discount for Power Girl digital collectible holders).

  • Per Chronicle Chamber, preorders are now open for Saturday Morning Cards’ upcoming The Phantom with four different configurations to choose from, including sketch cards. These cards will be showcased at SMC’s booth.

  • As the panel swag compiler for this blog, this update is right up my alley. @vickybunnyangel is attending this weekend’s MagicCon in Las Vegas for all things Magic: The Gathering. She got a look at a special Avatar: The Last Airbender MTG promo card that will be given out at an SDCC panel next month.

  • New York Times bestselling author Sarah Beth Durst has confirmed SDCC as one of the branches of her forthcoming book tour for The Enchanted Greenhouse, her upcoming novel releasing on July 15. Details and ticketed info still pending on her planned panels and signings for Thursday through Saturday.

  • On Threads, hyphenate Dr. Ebony Toussaint — nurse, researcher, Comics Studies Society member, and co-host of the Ororo Comics Podcast — confirmed the names for an all-Black women PhD panel on Threads (including herself, of course).

  • Seattle-based food illustrator Itadaki Yasu is hungry for convention appearances. They’ll grace SDCC’s Artists’ Alley as part of a jam-packed summer schedule.

  • As a multi-time connoisseur of James Silvani’s commissions, I love having him back at SDCC this year, and he continues to teases several fun originals he’ll have for sale in Artists’ Alley at table #II-06.

  • Con mainstay Comic Book Legal Defense Fund disclosed some topics you can expect them to cover across their annual series of panels on protecting the rights of comic creators, publishers, and retailers.

  • Ethan Castillo, who has basically grown up in SDCC’s Artists’ Alley since having his first table at 11 (!!!!) years old, is returning for the 11th year in a row. Check him out at Table #AA-01. BRB, off to feel old.

  • No surprises here, as Comic Book Men star and podcaster Ming Chen confirmed he will be posted up again in the Autograph Area this year.

  • In a Threads exchange, noted Marvel and DC cover artist David Nakayama confirmed he’ll be at SDCC, and it sure reads like he’ll be signing, as well.

  • The talented Wizyakuza — aka Ceasar Ian Muyuela — showed off his latest labor of love, a Solo Leveling canvas painting which will be available at SDCC as a foil print.
