Under the Tents 2025: Voicelings, Primal, Chris Uminga, Martin Hsu, Furry Feline Creatives

It’s going to be another busy day of San Diego Comic-Con, but we’ve still taken the time to round up all the teases, opportunities, and reveals for San Diego Comic-Con in another new edition of Under the Tents. So maybe it’s 5:30am PT. That’s just how we roll (and how busy it’s going to be today).

Here’s a look at what you might have missed:

  • Plush makers Furry Feline Creatives will soon be sinking their claws into San Diego Comic-Con. If you don’t happen to read Japanese, the company shared that two of the largest events of their kind — SDCC and Design Festa in Japan (Asia’s largest art festival in Tokyo) — will occur in the same month, and they’ll be at both. Sounds like they’re going to be some busy kitties. At SDCC, you can catch them at Booth #4435.

  • Speaking of felines, artist Martin Hsu teased that he’s been considering a big piece featuring a reunion of his most popular characters (some of which just happen to be cats). Be sure to let him know who you’d like to see featured in the piece.

  • Have you ever dreamed of being a voice actor? Tara Strong and her Voicelings company will be premiering a new short at San Diego Comic-Con, which was produced by DaniMation, and they want you to do the voices. For the next three weeks, they’ll be posting a character that you can audition for. This week’s casting call is Isaac, a 7-year-old with a love of bugs.

  • While we’ve been getting plenty of exciting news lately about what TV shows might be at San Diego Comic-Con, it sounds like one show is out — Primal, the Adult Swim animated series from Genndy Tartakovsky. In a recent interview with Collider, Tartakovsky confirmed that they won’t be at San Diego Comic-Con as it’s simply too early, but “maybe New York Comic-Con”.

  • Fobia Horror Comic, a new horror anthology from Derrick Acosta (Mega64), recently got proof copies in of Volume One. If you didn’t back it on Kickstarter, don’t worry — they may have some copies at San Diego Comic-Con.

  • Want to learn what it really takes to get into comics publishing? Join Hil Schmalke and Joseph Schmalke for their panel “Comics Publishing: Year One“, where they’ll recount the lessons they’ve learned with their Midnight Factory Press.

  • Award-winning director, creator, and writer Amit Tishler (Edenfront, The Last Wardens) teased an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, to announce new production and distribution deals.

  • Don’t have a badge for Friday of the con, or just looking for something to do a bit further out? Head to Balboa Park for National Carousel Day, where they’ll have a full day of live music, food vendors, and free rides on the carousel.
