It’s been 20 years since Avatar: The Last Airbender first aired, and Nickelodeon is celebrating its legacy in a big way at San Diego Comic-Con, to bring balance to the con.
The celebration kicks off on Thursday, July 24, from 10am-11am in Ballroom 20 with Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender 20th Anniversary Panel. Hosted by The Legend of Korra’s Janet Varney (Korra), the panel reunites original voice cast members Zach Tyler Eisen (Aang), Jack DeSena (Sokka), Michaela Jill Murphy (Toph), Jennie Kwan (Suki), Dante Basco (Zuko), and Dee Bradley Baker (Appa), alongside series composers, creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, and more.
On the show floor, they’ll be taking over Booth #4113 with an 1,800-square-foot display, which will immerse fans in the world of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air through interactive experiences, photo ops, exclusive merch, and more. Attendees can walk through iconic locations from the series, including The Boy in the Iceberg photo op, with a towering 20-foot recreation of Aang frozen in ice beside Appa. The journey continues into the Wulong Forest with a 180-degree GIF photo booth surrounded by towering 10-foot tall rock columns. From there, pose with a 9-foot-tall Appa for a printed and shareable digital photo. Keep your eyes peeled for a surprise guest in your GIF. There’s also an AR “Bending Journey” around the booth that will unlock characters and elemental magic.
Early risers can also snag a “My Cabbages!” tote bag with a cabbage and recipe card from the upcoming Official Baking Book, while supplies last.
The booth also includes autograph signings with talent and creators, surprise appearances by costumed SpongeBob and Patrick, and a merch station offering customizable baseball tees and totes featuring Avatar, TMNT, SpongeBob, The Legend of Aang, and more. Fans can “choose their nation” by customizing gear with Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, or Air Nomad insignias.
Outside the convention center, head to the Petco Park Interactive Zone for an Avatar x Magic: The Gathering activation. Guests can pose with the iconic cabbage cart, meet the Cabbage Merchant himself, snag a limited Katara promo card, and walk away with an oversized giveaway bag featuring a recipe card from Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Official Baking Book. It will be open Thursday, July 24 – Saturday, July 26 from 10am-5pm daily, and Sunday, July 27 from 10am-4pm.
