The worlds of movies and music collide at two events hosted by UC San Diego Artpower, during the weekend of San Diego Comic-Con.
Hosted by ArtPower at the Epstein Family Amphitheater (about an hour from the Gaslamp on the trolley), fans can delve deeper into the worlds of their favorite Pixar animated films and the music from modern-day television classics like Cobrai Kai, The Penguin, and more.
First up, on Tuesday, July 21 at 7:30pm, kick off your convention week with “Shredding the Multiverse”, a high-energy live performance featuring composer Mick Giacchino (The Penguin, Muppet Mayhem), along with musicians/composers Zach Robinson and Leo Birenberg (Cobrai Cai). Expect a genre-hopping set that pulls from across film, TV, and beyond, including Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Cobrai Cai, The Penguin, and more, reworked into a full-on concert experience. It’s a different way to experience the music behind some of your favorite stories. Tickets are available now and $45 for adults, or $35 for ages 2-18.

Then on Wednesday, July 22 at 7:30pm, is “Up Close: A Conversation with Brad Bird & Michael Giacchino”, pairing the Oscar-winning director (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) with his longtime collaborator, composer Michael Giacchino. The two will take the stage for a live conversation about their work, creative process, and the films that have defined their careers. Tickets are available now and $65 for adults, or $35 for ages 2-18.
